Heading for the beach? Here are 7 things to pack to turn your look from Beach Bum to Beach Babe!
1. The perfect swimsuit. (See archives: “Sizzlin’ Swimwear” for more styles).
-
Start with a cut you are comfortable with. You will not be able to strut your stuff if you cannot move in your suit. Check for “danger zones” like see-through fabric (especially when wet), moveable triangle tops that don’t stay in place, etc.
Color and pattern are also important. Although white is hot, it doesn’t look good on pale skin. Black and brown are always safe, and go with anything. Choose a pattern or print that complements your body type. -
Pack at least 2 pairs of swimsuits. You will need a spare while one is drying. If you plan to sunbathe, it’s best to pack two suits with similar styles, to avoid zigzagging tanlines.
-
Care for swimsuits: To help our swimsuit last longer, wash it immediately in cold water after it is exposed to salt or chlorinated water. Use mild liquid detergent soap. Lay them on clean towels to dry.

2. Cool Cover-ups.

Breezy tunics look extra-hot in see-through material—crochet, mesh, and voile.

Mesh tunic (yellow, purple), P795, Nothing But Water.
Board shorts: surf-chic shorts are not just for the sporty.
Leaf and floral print board shorts, P995, Chocolate Clothing Co.
Roomy pants in soft (sometimes sheer) fabric: elephant, drawsting, culottes.

Wrap: Coordinate printed suits with solid-colored wraps.

3. Summer dress. Must be lightweight, wrinkle- and fuss-free, and picture-perfect for those endless beach parties.
Sheer navy overlap dress with inner, beaded, P4,999. Necklace (short) P1,569 (long) P3,299, Sala Bianca.
Green halter dress, P2,999, Sala Bianca. Wraps cleverly into genie pants/sarong dress.
4. Large hat. Physical shading offers the best protection for your face against the harmful rays of the sun.
Green straw hat, P1,620, Chocolate Clothing Co.

Straw cowboy hat, about P250, SM Crafts.
5. Even larger shades. Sunglasses are not just for looking cool. Bigger shades offer more protection for the eyes and prevent the sun from peeking through the sides. Choose light-weight plastics in fun shades.

Lucca in red, P220, Fly Wear.

Geneve in green, P260, Fly Wear.

6. Sunscreen. While you’re careful to apply sunscreen all over the body, you shouldn’t forget your lips! Protect your smoochers with lipbalm or lipcolor containing SPF.
DIOR Addict Ultra Gloss with SPF 8, Rustans.

L’OCCITANE Lips Shield with SPF 15, Rustans.
7. Flip flops. The trustee Havaianas are still the best. (Beware: If you’re going for a dip, do not leave your precious Havs unguarded—Havaianas have been known to disappear from the beach.)

I’m so unhappy with Billabong! I wore my tankini once to go diving and it tore right away. I even wrote to their customer service (via website) and no one replied. Bad brand!

The zebra-striped Havaianas are so adorable!!!!! About lousy tankinis, seems poor quality isn’t limited to big well-known brands. I had a bikini custom-made once by a certain high-profile “society” girl. She made the bottom so small, it made a thong from Marks & Sparks look like culottes. There was practically no tela, just string. When I asked her to re-do it, she refused. Too bad for me because I already paid her P2,000 in advance. Bikini buyers beware! To be fair, I’ve never had problems with my Billabong rash guard
I’ve had it for four years and it’s been to many rough waters around the world. Still good as new

I think I know who’s the high-profile society girl is =)
Anyway for those who are interested in custom made bikinis, you may visit Pink Belter at Greenhills shopping centre. She has a stall at Goldcrest in Glorietta 2 but fitting is done at GH.
and same with hotstepper, I’m satisfied with my Billabong rash guard. I also have this boardshorts which I have for more than 3 years already and it still good as new

Hi, sheena.
I’m interested to have the bottom (part) customized since I can’t find a printed one here, and even online, to match my plain choco brown top.
Do you know other custom-maker for bikinis aside from Pink Belter. But I will surely check out Pink Belter this week…
Where is Pink Belter’s exact location in Greenhills?
Thanks!

Hi suzi! Pink Belter is located at Greenhills Shopping Center, at the tiangge area itself. She has 3 stalls: 1 near the native crafs area, I think it’s also near Chinabank. Another one near Baker’s Fair entrance, and another one near the food stall infront of V-mall entrance. Facing the entrance it’s on the left side. Anyway you won’t miss it since her stall’s full of bikinis (aside from F&S) and couture shorts.
I so love her white bikini, doesn’t give me those nasty peek-a-boo moments even if it gets wet =d

what are the range of prices for the swim wear at pink belter?
March 16th, 2007 at 9:55 am
It depends on the material and the design. I think I got mine around 600-700 at Bink Belter in Goldcrest, Glorietta. Quite cheap! But then there are also other stalls in Greenhills that sell cute bikinis. Its kinda jahe lang to fit in their makeshift dressing rooms.

BILLABONG! is a very well known brand here in australia! it is one the the best surfing brands and in philippines there are alot of fakes and even if it looks so real i could be fake so you just have to know where your buying it and if its a real billabong item it`ss really expensixe so you have to know that NO billabong item is cheap so never go for the cheap stuff `cos it not good quality!

hello! i was wondering if anybody here knows the name and brand of the bra that covers the chest if you use plunging blouses? i don’t see anything like that here in the states. the chest material is made of lace and the cup itself. i used to have a couple of it in white and black back there in the Philippines. help!
March 18th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
