Sizzlin’ Swimwear, Part I

Swimsuit season is but a few weeks away, so here’s the lowdown on the hottest swimwear to suit all body types, from some of my favorite bikini stops.

SOLO & FREEWAY. I like their designs because the colors and prints are always young and trendy. The prices are very friendly, too! See their latest swimsuit collections at Solo (Galleria) and Freeway (Galleria, Glorietta, SM Malls, Robinsons Malls), starting mid-February 2006.

Pink/brown striped string bikini, P875.

Aqua/brown floral print bikini top and shorts, P875.

Retro-striped bikini with brown ties, P875.

ASSORTI. Their swimsuits are from Thailand and Brazil, and come in only 1 to 3 pieces per design, so you don’t have to fear bumping into someone wearing the exact same suit. See their collection at the G/F Philsteel Building, 140 Amorsolo Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City; 816-0648.

Navy bikini with orange flowers, P1,400.

Aqua/brown leaf print bikini with skirted bottom, P1,650.

Warning: Do not mistake this design as a camouflage for heavy-bottomed figures. The frilly skirt actually adds pounds. On the other hand, boyish figures will benefit from this feminizing style.

“Flower-power” string bikini, P1,400.

Black shorts, P1,000.

Great as a cover-up, or to pair with any bikini top.

Black bikini with dotted trim, price available upon request. Made in Brazil.

RISQUè DAREWEAR. Risquè is a new line of handmade swimwear that features the most colorful and fascinating designs this side of summer. True to its name, it breaks new ground with provocative and sensational styles that mix and match different textiles and chic embellishments like beads, sequins, seashells, stones, metal and wood rings. No print or beadwork is ever done twice, so you can strut down the beach in your unique design.

Risquè is known for its sexy, cut-out, one-piece suits, but it also carries a wide range of bikinis for every mood: from preppy, to city-sleek, and even animal prints.

Risquè is exclusively available at Edge of Light Studio (G/F 2345 Osmeña Place Building, Osmeña corner Teresa Streets, Rizal Village, Makati City; 899-4823, 890-4611, 0917-622-5131), Nullah Building (Jupiter Street, Makati City), and Fly Store (D’Mall, Boracay).

Maillots.

Embellished: Some of these pieces are pretty enough to wear under a sheer top (or alone if you dare), on a hot night on the town.

Preppy: Eye-catching designs in sweet colors.

Solid: Bright-colored bikinis with sophisticated details.

Pualani swimwear is now available in Nothing But Water stores - Glorietta, Alabang Town Center and Robinson’s Galleria branches. If you want a stay-up bikini, this is it. it doesn’t feel loose when you get out of the water that’s why the surfer girls in Hawaii use this brand. Try it on in the stores and you’ll immediately feel the difference :)
