Topshop Sale for Students Only (What about us working stiffs?)

by Stephanie Dychiu

Topshop Student Sale.jpgThere is no Topshop flagship store in New York City.  Did you know that? How can this icon of the British high street be absent from the retail capital of the world? But Topshop has several branches here in Manila, with merchandise produced in China shipped to England then back to Asia…let us not question the quirks of globalization that led to our unexpected good fortune. Tee hee! In time for the back-to-school bustle, Topshop is giving students 10% off on all purchases

Demi-Brooke.jpgJust a few days after Shopcrazy celebratedthe births of baby Shiloh (by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt) and baby Kingston (by Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale), Vince and Eileen Grey of The Picture Company e-mailed us about their latest “Pregnancy Portraits” photography service. The baby bump is truly the accessory of the season! This latest offering from The Picture Company lets infanticipating mums bask in pregnant glory like Demi Moore on Vanity Fair (1991) and Brooke Shields on Vogue (2003).

Morticia Goes Floral

morticia-goes-floral.jpgThere is a revival of floral patterns these days. Unfortunately, while the trend in fake flowers is moving towards the extra realistic (as interior designer Leo Almeria calls it, “fake na orig”), with all its petal creases and bruised leaves, patterns are geared towards the unrealistic.

Two-dimensional line drawings of leaves and blooms in wild colors started out about two years ago. Came the pinks and fluorescents last year. Right now, the cartoonic two-dimensional pattern became 3-D with cutouts and shadowed single tone prints.

Evening Clutch

by Rorie Carlos, Fashion Editor, Marie Claire

Red-Clutch.jpgI love using clutches for evening. They’re elegantly streamlined yet compact enough to carry the essentials. A fab new bag store called Matisse has some of the most unique and exquisite pieces around. My top pick is this satin bejeweled number because the bright color adds punch to any ensemble and the jewel detail gives it a vintage, I-got-it-from-my-lola feel.

Red satin clutch, P6900, Matisse, Unit 5A The Zone, Malugay Street, Makati City.

Webmaster’s Note: Matisse’s bags are imported from Thailand. They also carry funky, intricately-detailed leather totes and accessories.
