Morticia Goes Floral

There is a revival of floral patterns these days. Unfortunately, while the trend in fake flowers is moving towards the extra realistic (as interior designer Leo Almeria calls it, “fake na orig”), with all its petal creases and bruised leaves, patterns are geared towards the unrealistic.
Two-dimensional line drawings of leaves and blooms in wild colors started out about two years ago. Came the pinks and fluorescents last year. Right now, the cartoonic two-dimensional pattern became 3-D with cutouts and shadowed single tone prints.
Tord Boontje, a Dutch designer capitalized in making 18th century patterns two dimensional while transforming them into cutouts.
He also started the single colored prints on sheer for curtains (for Kvadrat, a Danish textile company). On the other hand, we have Marimekko prints on fabric and other home accessories. While Tord concentrated on outlines, Marimekko filled their outlines with color. With these patterns, it feels like there is a renaissance of the French toile de Jouy yet in a floral fashion in bright hues and brave patterns.
And then, there are the metallics of gold and silver to make the funk more mature. And as if Carrie Bradshaw was not enough in Sex in the City with her cabbage rose, comes rose and wild tulip pattern prints in bold black and grey. Making the fun and brave new floral a little bit older. Still perky and fun but more experienced and mature.

hi shiela and ava!
designer blooms, robinsons department store, landmark and sm department stores sell fake flowers. if you want to buy a lot, try going to florasilk or berde plants near las pinas. berde is along south super highway (and so is the warehouse of designer blooms) and florasilk is near alabang zapote road.
