There are shoppers and there are shoppers. There are those who shop only for what they need, and those who shop for the sake of shopping itself. At The House of Laurel, shopping is not an act, it’s an experience. Rajo Laurel’s loyal clients will note that every time a new collection is out, his store also changes its look. From winter wonderland, to geisha-inspired, and sometimes, when in transition, a minimalist and modern look. Fortunately for Rajo, his shop at a side street near Rockwell is free from the clutches of mall magnates who will never allow perpetual week-long shutdowns for renovation. Rajo, in the throes of passion over his baby’s latest makeover, is also not to be trifled with! His latest glam punk collection is called Ghetto Fabulous, and The House of Laurel will unveil its new face on Wednesday, June 14th.

Check out the graffiti-style art created by Unboxed Mind, which covers almost every available wall space in the store. It’s not just paintings hanging on a wall—the walls themselves are paintings. So much detail is woven into the images. There is an octopus with light switches for its three eyes. There is a robot with an air conditioner for a head. And of course, self-portraits of the two new artists who slaved over the shop’s new look. Rajo graciously declined to have his face painted on the walls. “Too much na, di ba?” he chirped.

Rajo’s plans for his lifestyle boutique keep getting bigger and better. His salon, found at the back of the store, is opening up soon. Construction is almost done, and this will be the new domain of fab new makeup artist Gela Laurel, Rajo’s sister. Can’t wait to see the Queen Bee’s new hive!
