Chocolate.jpgBack in grade six, our math teacher Mrs. H. put the fear of diabetes in our hearts forever. Everyday, she started the class by talking about all the food she wasn’t allowed to eat. No chocolates, no cakes, no softdrinks, no chips, no fries. Et cetera, et cetera. It seemed like everything was off-limits except icky vegetables like patola. Well, Mrs. H., if you’re reading this, the restaurant of your dreams just opened in Podium. Run, good woman, run!

Sugarnot is the brainchild of Angeli Beltran-Lambsdorff’s diabetic dad, Eli Beltran. He was diagnosed as a diabetic two years ago, but refused to be deprived from eating the food he loved. In November 2005, the Beltrans opened the first branch of Sugarnot along South Superhighway in Makati. Diabetics and South Beach dieters of the south quickly became regulars. Last week, Sugarnot formally opened its northern outpost in The Podium shopping mall.

Marketing VP Angeli Beltran-Lambsdorff gave us a list of her favorites at the restaurant:
1. Tiramisu (P88)
2. Last Temptation - chocolate cake with truffle filling and ganache frosting (P128 per slice, P1,568 whole)
3. Canoningo - with custard sauce, fat-free and only 65 calories! (P58 per slice, P688 whole)
4. Mango Cream Cake (P78)
5. Mango Salad - assorted fruits, vegetables, and greens with mango dressing (P138)
6. Aglio Olio pasta - spaghetti pasta with sauteed garlic in olive oil, herbs, and chili flakes (P138)
7. French Onion Soup - with melted mozzarella cheese (P98)

Sugarnot also has chicken, tuna, and turkey sandwiches, sausages served with potato salad, doughnuts, cookies, coffee, and ice cream from BTIC. (No patola, yay!) Made-to-order sugar-free cakes can be requested from the crew.

Sugarnot serves four kinds of pastas: aglio olio, al pesto, puttanesca, and arrabbiata

Do you know if they sell angel cakes?

  9. Reg Says:

Been wanting to try that for some time now. I’d pass a main meal and just eat dessert! They should put up a store in QC.

  10. Ruby Gan Says:

    Hello!
I tried sugarnot once! The Temptation was really good! But do stay away from their tiramisu. The one i got had the tangy taste! I called immediately so they know. The cashier, Deanna, was nice enough to accommodate me. Anyway, my son was able to get a replacement for the awful tiramisu. There was some guy who explained to him that they were trying out something new by adding “lemon” in the tiramisu! DUH! Now, that’s a really TALL story if I heard one!

  11. therese Says:

Medyo dry yung teriyaki chicken sandwich. I didn’t get the try the pastries; I guess they taste better than the main dishes?

  12. Amado Says:

They have an oulet at SM The Block. The tiramisu had a burnt taste. The sugar-free tiramisu at Cake To Go (Timog Av) is far better. The consolation ? Their tiramisu is “better” than Cibo

  13. joy Says:

  14. Newboy Says:
