A Home for the Bride—and More

by Gwyn Guanzon, Stylist

home-for-the-bride-01.jpgThe thing about home stores is that when you visit their store every month, most likely, there will only be two items that are new on the floor. The ones on the racks are faster to move than the bigger ones (example: furniture pieces). Usually, it will take about two months for them to actually sell an item. Sometimes, even a year. So if they don’t rigodon their furniture every so often, the next time you visit a home store, what you saw before is what you will see again.

The best thing to do is to scout for new stores. The ones that are obscurely located are usually the ones with the one-of-a-kind home accessories. Accept it, when it comes to home decor, the word generic should always be kept inside the medicine cabinet! Go for the ones that speak character.

Speaking of character, there is one fashion designer that we featured before in Real Living whose designs shout uniqueness and style. When you see one, you will know right away—it’s Michi Calica. She opened a bridal store several months back located in New Manila. When I got in there, it was not just a bridal store, but a home store as well. It was a given that the store is complete for the bride—from gowns to shoes, from bags to tiaras. I was surprised with the peripherals the store sells—stainless oil burners, lamps, framed art pieces (did I tell you they sell an Inday painting? Oh yes, they have a lot at very friendly rates), vases and yes, furniture pieces. Well-selected accessories from Plum Home with an assurance that you can never find it anywhere else but there.

It’s a bridal and home store—basically what a bride would need before the wedding and what the wife would want after.

Michi Calica Bridal and Home is located at The Oasis, 169 Aurora Boulevard (in front of Broadway Centrum), San Juan, Metro Manila. For info, you can call 725-7124, and look for Joy. Or visit their website at www.michicalica.com/mcbridalnhome.html.
