Lash Extensions

lash-extensions-intro.jpgAre you ready for lash extensions? Look closely at your fave celebs’ photos. Don’t you just love their long, full, and curly lashes? Now you can have them, too!

What exactly are lash extensions? They are semi-
permanent eye lashes glued to your real eye lashes and eye lids to make lashes look fuller and longer.

How are they different from falsies? Falsies or false lashes are attached to the lids, separate from the lashes, and are usually a whole strip. Extensions, on the other hand, are attached individually, and are incorporated into your own lashes so that you do not see where your own lashes end and the extensions begin. False lashes are also meant to be removed after a day, while extensions last longer.

Tilka Brings India and the Middle East to Makati

tilka-in-makati-01.jpgIn college, I would probably spend at least a couple of nights a month at the house of one of my best friends, who happened to be Indian. I was so interested in her culture and was constantly gorging on their home-cooked food that it prompted my friend’s dad to declare, “I think you’re half-Bumbay!” (Perhaps I was Indian in a past life—even in Singapore, one of my absolute favorite spots is Little India! It kind of felt like I was home the first time I went there.)

So it’s no surprise that I was totally charmed by Tilka, a home and fashion accessories store with lovely items imported from India and equally enchanting Egypt, Turkey, and Dubai. (“Tilka” or bindi is Hindi for forehead decoration.) Owned and managed by Karisma and Arrun Bhavnani, the store opened just last August, offering unique items with vibrant colors and ornate designs—definitely for the “maximalists”! A few unusual finds: candleholders and vases in the form of elephants and camels, shisha pipes with their own carrying case, embellished toiletry sets, incense holders, and even pretty candle snuffers (something I’ve long been searching for).

Webmaster’s note: Welcome to ShopCrazy’s new polling section, where we mouth off about shopping “controversies”! Step 1: Read the back story. Step 2: Cast your vote in the poll box at the bottom. Step 3: Go to the comments section and explain the reason for your vote.

Would you rent a designer bag and pass it off as yours?

BACKGROUND

If you’re lusting after the latest LV but paying for one would render you homeless, there are now online sites that rent out authentic designer bags for a fee. The rules vary from one company to another, but the basic idea is the same. For just a few dollars (as little as $15/month for trendsetting labels, to $275/month for hard-to-get designer purses), you can borrow a bag for an unlimited time. And when you’re tired of it, you simply return it and borrow another one. Some companies even offer customers the chance to buy or “steal” the item at a discounted price. You’d think this only happens abroad, but we’ve heard of Manila residents who have these borrowed bags shipped to the Philippines then ship them back to the US. (more…)

“I would like to thank Dr. Vicki Belo…”

Belo-in-Podium-Ortigas.jpgWhenever you hear a celeb say this, don’t you automatically think: “I wonder what she’s had done?”

I’ve been curious about Dr. Vicki Belo and her clinics but since I’m really not into plastic surgery (don’t mark my words, though), visiting her clinic just wasn’t in my agenda. Until I found out they have a spray-tanning salon!

So off I go to their Podium clinic, the only branch that offers spray-tanning. While at the clinic, I learned that just because you’re a Belo patient doesn’t mean you’ve had a nose job, boob implants, or liposuction. Plastic surgery is just one side of Belo Clinics. They also have facials, peels, laser hair removal, and other non-surgical procedures that are supposed to enhance your skin, face, and body, minimize signs of aging, and hopefully spare one from undergoing plastic surgery in the future.
