And get yourself a Singelringen. Which, summoning all my brain power, I have deduced means “single ring” in Swedish. Founded in 2005 by Johan Wahlbäck, Singelringen manufactures the eponymous ring—a cool, spare, modern-looking band made of silver, with a translucent azure-colored acrylic layer gleaming on top. Wahlbäck came up with the idea of a ring for single people when he realized that single men and women (unlike their married and engaged friends) went about their business with naked ring fingers. Why not make a ring that allowed single people to let the world know that they were single, and having a great time of it?
Worn around the neck or on the right hand (the opposite of where you would wear a wedding ring, were you happily coupled), the Singelringen not only looks great, but comes with its own self-destruct mechanism! Said mechanism is a unique registration number, inscribed inside the ring, which wearers can input into the Singelringen website (http://www.singelringen.com/) to communicate with fellow singles, upping your chances of not being single for very much longer.
The rings have struck a chord the world over, and have moved out of their native Sweden to retail in Europe, the US, South America, Japan, and elsewhere in Asia. Here in Manila, they’re only about to launch in a few select stores. Those who were unable to purchase the Singelringen last week may visit Schu in Glorietta 3 and Goldworks in Podium. The Singelringen is available in both shops at the standard retail price of P2450. You may also buy the ring online at http://www.singelringen.com for $49.
We will, however, be selling the Singelringen at Tangerine Drop, a two-day mini luxury lounge sale at Edsa Shangrila at the slightly discounted price of P2,250 on October 21-22, 2006 at 2-8 PM.
