WAREHOUSE: New Brit Clothing Store Opens in Podium

warehouse-01.jpgThe British are coming . . . again. In the wake of Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, and Wallis comes Warehouse, another staple of British high-street fashion. Ever at your service, ShopCrazy floated over to the store opening yesterday to pick out some nice items for your consideration. But first, what makes Warehouse different from Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, and Wallis?

Three things:

    1. Their motto is “Design for the high street.” (That means designer quality at high-street prices. Warehouse puts a lot of emphasis on the democratization of fashion, so quality can be accessible to all. Lovely thought, though we must point out that “affordable” is a relative term. A Big Mac in London costs three times its price in Manila. Purchasing power parity and all that.)
    2. They say “styley” instead of “stylish.” (That sounds better than our moms saying “spooting”, don’t you think? Is that how you spell it? S-p-o-o-t-i-n-g? Where did this word come from, anyway?)
    3. Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, and Wallis belong to the same parent company in the UK, while Warehouse is owned by another group. (But in the Philippines, they’re all managed by the same group called . . . can you guess?)

  2. suburbanlad Says:

i hope they also bring h&m down here. and hopefully it will really be ‘affordable’

  3. wysgal Says:

I think the etymology of “spooting” is “sporting.” I.E. “You look very sporting today.” =)

  4. Stef Says:

Thanks, Wysgal! You just solved one of the greatest mysteries of my growing-up years :)

I went na and it’s fabulous. And it’s not TopShop sizes which I feel are only for models. Clothes are more style-y than Dorothy Perkins, I believe. And that’s coming from a DP fan. Prizes are within the Zara-Mango range but a bit lower.

I got curious so I went to Podium today. The store is unique with the bricks and christmas looking wallpaper. Clothes are great! It is tamer than Topshop but more fashionable than Zara and Mango. From London ito noh?

  14. britgurl Says:

Yep! This brand is from the UK… :) There are more beauties in the store aside from the pictures in this site. Believe me, I’ve seen them all! Check this store out guys! It’s FANTASTIC!

SPUTING– I always thought it came from the word SPUTNIK the Russian spacecraft. Since it was high-tech that time, “sputing” might be the tagalog version of “looking rad”. But I could be wrong, i wasn’t born yet that time.

  16. bite_me Says:

  17. moret Says:

    Simply WOW! gorgeous pieces!

  22. anique Says:

btw, the bricks would represent houses in UK cos their all made in red bricks, some shaded but most of them in red. And to complement Warehouse as the British people always says, ‘It’s lovely.’

  23. platinum Says:

nice pieces! prices are reasonable but i know i’ll be able to get ‘em for a better deal, so i’ll wait for the sale. :)
