Cake Heaven in a Box

by KV Villareal, Web and Mobile Producer

cupcakes-by-sonja-04.jpgMy suggestion? Go to Cupcakes by Sonja and let your taste buds guide you. Feeling a little adventurous? Try the PB & J’s or the Coco Loco. Feeling a bit fruity? Try the Lemon Drop. Want to indulge the chocoholic in you? Sink your teeth into a Chocolate Cloud or a Smores Galore. Savor each and every bite. Make sure to try every flavor at least once. Take pleasure in the ambiance, the feeling of nostalgia.

Cupcakes by Sonja will be serving plated desserts soon, such as Phyllo-crusted Madagascar Bourbon Creme Brulee Cupcake with Dulce de Leche and Blueberry Sauce and Warm Rum Soaked Savarin with Valrhona Chocolate Souffle topped with Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce to name a couple.

Would you say Sonja’s Cupcakes are worth the steep price tag though? These look like they’re best saved for special occasions.

  2. roxy Says:

been there last month…heavenly! cant choose, i liked them all..yummy!

  3. roxy Says:

    try heavenly pistachio…the best!

  4. Reesh Says:

Went to check the place out with a couple of friends as soon as I saw this blog entry. Tried a couple of flavors but the winner by a unanimous decision is the flourless chocolate cupcake. Yes, it’s a bit expensive but it’s worth a taste. ‘Orgasmic’ is the only word me and my friends can think of to best describe it.

  5. Didi Says:

I was able to try this a month ago, to be honest they’re priced really really steep for a cupcake. Nothing spectacular, but great. I personally loved the Red Velvet Vixen and the Berries and Cream (smelled absolutely divine!)

  6. cindy Says:

my brother has been raving about these cupcakes :D

  7. notsolillulu Says:

Consider these cupcakes a nice treat at the end of a long, busy work day. =) They’re not cheap enough to have everyday but when I do have them, they never fail to satisfy. Personal faves are the florless choco, red velvet and the peanut butter & jelly.

  8. Aina Says:

OMG! Must try! But my diet will be ruined!!! What to do ? What to do?

  9. dana Says:

truly amazing! a treat for all! yeah, just the same thing though prices are little bit over the top.

  10. mrtnz Says:

I love the Red Velvet Vixen. Heavenly! Wanna go back there. And Sonja is friendly too!

  12. trixie Says:

  14. laine Says:

Cupcakes are cute and good enough to eat..the service?hmmm…they almost forgot my order!I’ve waited for 30 minutes!Ordering 12pcs isn’t too much right? Not enough for them to forget.I hope they get better, customer service is SOMETHING.

  15. xtina Says:

its just wrong to view these pictures when you haven’t had lunch. tsk. tsk.

  16. KV Says:

wysgal: They ARE somewhat expensive, but I think they’re worth it. And yes, you could save them for special occasions so it won’t be too painful on the pocket ;)

Reesh: I totally agree! I went back last week and had the flourless cupcake again. It was just absolutely heavenly :D

Aina: Diet schmiet! Hehe :) Seriously though. I think they’re worth a try. Just cut something else from your diet :D

sam: Same here, I can’t wait to try the rest :) But I think the flourless cupcake will be my all-time favorite…for now ;)

xtina: So true! It’s lunchtime and instead of thinking of where I wanna eat, I’m craving these cupcakes! :D

  17. Lanie Says:

feel wanna go there now, as in NOW!!

  18. joan Says:

Tried Sonja and service was quite bad last night (9PM), we had to wait for 15 minutes for a box of 4 cupcakes (take out!), plus the fact that they served the customer behind the person behind me first! Good thing the cupcakes were worth the wait. Hope Sonja’s reading this so they can improve :)

  19. CK Says:

the cupcakes were great but they didn’t even have a bag to carry the boxes with…

  20. mirka Says:

the whole Sonja’s concept is inviting.I’m a big dessert fan… but I think I’m inclined to agree…it’s good to have once in a while (highly overpriced)….

  21. can't w8 Says:

can’t wait to eat one, or two, or three! i don’t know… but i like to try flourless choco cupcake.. that’s for sure.. *drool drool* :)

  22. JP Says:

i tried these cupcakes and was disappointed coz it wasn’t all that good and its highly overpriced. i payed 250 for 3 cupcakes but i realized i could have bought a dozen donuts at Krispy Kreme at that price!!!

  23. mustshop Says:

kv, you should really try hackleberry’s choco decadent cake if you’re such a chocolate lover. promise the best ever! sobrang yummy ng chocolate i could die. and the price is really affordable. hackleberrys@yahoo.com :-)

  24. wendythewitch Says:

i tried the cupcakes also and was a bit disappointed because of the high prices for a very small sizes only. but the peppermint flavored one is worth the try. by the way, my friends are planning to eat at Serendra Piazza next week. which resto is good in terms of taste, affordability, and servings? we tried abe but the prices are quite expensive though the food tastes good.

  25. Tisha Says:

I’m not so sure about the prices, but I got to sample the steak at Duo and it was delish. (I’m a meat-lover kasi!). If you haven’t tried Brazil Brazil elsewhere, you could try it here–just make sure you wear something loose because you’ll be stuffed afterwards! There’s also an interesting Hawaiian grill there. Have fun!

  26. wendythewitch Says:

Thanks for the tip. We’ll try to look around the restos first and check out which menu everyone will agree on.

  27. Anonymous Says:

well, right after i saw it in unang hirit (gma7 am show) a month ago i think , i was so excited to try it. But i was disappointed because it s really overpriced. over ha! and the tastes was just okay. exagg lang masyado. service wasnt good din.

  28. KV Says:

joan: I visisted Sonja’s once after dinner on a Friday, and the line was really long. But since I only ordered one cupcake for takeout, I got mine in a few minutes. And yes, I got my order even before the people who ordered before me. Only because my order was readily available and it was just one cupcake :)

can’t w8: You really have to try the flourless cupcake! Really, really good :) Still my favorite ’til now ;) Oh, and try the Chocolate Dream too! YUM!

mustshop: Thanks for the tip! How’d you find out about Hackleberry’s?

  29. la lohan Says:

it IS espensive for such a small cupcake. i think it’s for the A class only haha! i loved the vanilla sunshine (reminds me of my birthday cake when i was little. it’s a no fuss cake. just a simple vanilla chiffon and icing) and carrot cake. their chocolate cupcake is good too because it’s not that sweet. i’ve always wanted to try berries & cream and choco cream pie. Ü

  30. therese Says:

I liked the vanilla sunshine better than berries & cream. :-)

  31. KV Says:

la lohan: You should try the Berries & Cream and the Choco Cream Pie! They’re both super yummy :) But my current fave is the second one. Mmmmm, my mouth’s watering now :P

therese: I haven’t tried the Vanilla Sunshine. How does it taste like? :)

  32. Mau Says:

I agree with, Kv. Love these cupcakes hehe.

  33. TV Says:

All i can say is… Cupcakes by sonja definitely takes me to another place. IT IS HEAVENLY! It is worth every cent that pay for.Choco surprise… vanilla sunshine… PB&J… all of it! The line is long for a reason… so be patient and make sure you bring home 1 or 2 or maybe a box to be shared. enjoy it as much as i do – again and agai,

  34. amado Says:

try the mini-cupcakes of classic confections. great

  35. Patricia Salud-Barut Says:

What am i going to do na. I’m 160lbs na nga eh. So hard naman to lose weight. My husband is telling me na nga to lose weight and he’s starting to lose interest na in me. My kids don’t want me to make sundo na them in school; they make a lot of palusots but i think they are just embarrassed to make sama their mom. But these cupcake is so sarap; picture pa nga lang i drool over it already. OMG! what am i supposed to lose na? my weight or my family? HELP TALAGA!

  36. Pia Says:

I was given a cupcake box by Sonja as birthday giveaway by my cousin. Uhmm, i wasn’t too impressed though. The icing was too sweet and without much flavor but sugar. And the cake base was quite dry.

  37. mai-mai Says:
