Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

jeux-01.jpgRegular visitors to this blog might have noticed that I’ve done a series of entries on accessories. There was my post on rings for single people, semiprecious jewelry from Peru, and trendy plastic rings that you can take apart and put together to come up with new styles. I love accessories—they’re a fun, relatively cost-effective way to add oomph to your wardrobe. In my opinion, you can never have too many of ‘em.

I’d be guilty of dereliction of duty, however, if I didn’t write about Jeux, one of my all-time favorite accessories lines. Launched in August 2005, Jeux creates handmade, one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets, brooches, and rings for women who aren’t afraid to make a statement with their accessories choices. The design philosophy is big, colorful, eclectic, and urbane, reflected in the brand’s choice of name: Jeux (pronounced “zhooh”) is French for “play.”

All of Jeux’s pieces are mixed-media—meaning they’re each made from a variety of different things, ranging from chains, beads, and colored stones to ribbons, fabric, and hand-crocheted flowers. A recent innovation has been the incorporation of hand-stitched beaded medallions to many of the pieces (you can see some examples of these in the photos below). These beaded medallions are so large and colorful and sparkling that you feel REALLY dressed up when you put them on.

What I like so much about Jeux (and why I own and wear these accessories myself) is that the line is just so lighthearted and fun. It’s clear that designer Claire Betita-Samson has infused her accessories with her own personality. Aside from being Cosmopolitan magazine’s Associate Editor, Claire is also the author of chick-lit favorite No Boyfriend Since Birth, is a great dresser, and is a warm, fun person to boot. Jeux’s necklaces, bracelets, brooches, and rings reflect her great vibe.
