Blow-Up Babies

Last December 2006, I attended the opening of Blow-up Babies photo studio in Serendra, The Fort. I’ve heard of its first branch at Gateway Mall in Araneta Center, but never got around to checking it out. They shoot excellent portraits with unique themes and set-ups. I’m glad I went because Diego, the Pooch with the Fro, and I had fun!

The minute we entered, we were blown away (excuse the pun) by the look of the studio. The reception/waiting area has a cool 60’s design but at the same time child-friendly. Then we took a peek inside the studio, where Dr. Vicki Belo and family were having portraits taken. Dr. Vicki Belo’s son, Quark Henares, is one of the partners of the studio.

WHAT TO EXPECT
If you wish to have a photo session, it’s best to inform them in advance which set-up/s you like so they can prepare their especially designed props and costumes. Each session is good for one hour, and you can have as many shots or designs within the time limit. Prices start at P950 for members, and P1050 for non-members. This includes a one-hour photo session, use of costumes and props, and a 10”x12” print copy. The prices vary according to the size of the print. (See price list below)

Whether you want solo glam shots or fun family photos, with or without pets, I say just go for it! You don’t have to wait for an occasion. A friend once told me, have professional portraits taken while you still possess youthful good looks because God and Dr. Vicki Belo know they don’t last forever.
PRICE LIST:
Starting February 15, 2007, the prices listed below will apply. So if you drop by between now and February 14, 2007 you can still avail their old rates.

what are the different layouts to choose from? will there be a different price if for example, we want to have our baby’s picture taken on the first 30 minutes and our family picture on the next 30 minutes? what if the shoot lasted for more than an hour, what are the additional prices for that? thanks so much.

blow-up babies is AWESOME!
the photographers are really good, thier set-ups are amazing and the prints come out beautifully. i know the packages seem kind of pricey, but when you get your prints, it’s really worth it. afterall, it’s not one of your usual run-of-the-mill studios.
on our last anniversary, my boyfriend surprised me with a one-hour photo session with one of the senior photographers (who also happens to be a really good friend of mine) from their gateway branch. galing coz we did two set-ups — one for skin shots and another one where we were, well, dressed. both came out beautifully.
i adored the skin shots more though. haha. they were tastefully done, and more importantly, it was easy to feel comfortable during the shoot.
later on, he surprised me yet again by having our skin shots printed on a bracelet (view at http://psychodarlingangel.blogspot.com).apparently, the studio has an arrangement with happy david, who transforms your photographs from simple prints to some really eye-catching accessories, allowing you to wear your photographs on your wrist or neck (photo is printed on a pendant). with my bracelet, it’s kind of vain, i know (haha!), but it’s nice coz it’s so sweet and personalized and it’s always been such an eye-catcher and conversation piece eversince i started wearing it.(o girls, you know na what to ask for for valentines! haha).
i think they have more packages than those listed (coz i don’t see the ones we got). so maybe you could just visit their website, call their branches or better yet, drop by their studio where it’s hard to leave without either getting your photograph taken, scheduling a session, or at least making a mental note to have some skin shots taken while you’re still young, sexy and beautiful.

hi osan! to answer your questions…
…did u do ur own make up and stuf?
it’s up to you how you want to enhance your looks. did you check out my blog, may sample pic dun, so you’d have an idea
since it was a skin shot, minimal make-up. you want to look as “natural” as possible. ;p i just did my usual everyday make-up (foundation, concealer, mascara, blush and lipstick). i did set my hair a little, though. but all very minimal. since the shots were digital, the photographers at blow-up babies do the retouching (through photoshop) after the shoot. if you’re doing skin shots, you’ll most likely opt for a sepia or black and white print so make-up would have a minimal effect. for colored prints, it’s the same
…pano ung skin shots?
it was tastefully done, and they don’t do frontal nudity. my friend made sure that when she took the pics, my nipples weren’t showing. if you feel uncomfortable about going, well, topless, you could wear a skin-colored tube/bandeau.
just jeans
how much pala did you spend? is it like per photo or per session?
or why don’t you drop by the studio and inquire there nalang so you could at least get an estimate of how much you’re willing to spend.
i think they changed the rates na and there are different rates for memebers. the photo session, since it was my friend, was discounted. normally, at that time, it was P850.00/one hour session (inclusive of photographer’s fee, use of the studio and any set-up of your choice…you could pick as many as you want). as for the prints, it depends on the package you choice. you could google for the blow up babies website (coz i don’t know the url) and check if they posted the rates
hope that helped! take care!

hi ayen! yeah, tell your boyfriend (or hubby?)!
i think coupled with getting great pictures, it was also the experience that made it so much fun. uber sweet especially if prior arrangements are made. it’s better kasi if you schedule it in advance as when you just walk in the studio. they also entertain walk-ins though, but if someone’s using the studio pa, you’d have to wait.
lemme know if you want other sweet anniv celeb ideas
take care!
