A year ago in gossip, the media was all agog about Britney Spears endangering the life of her baby Sean Preston-Federline while driving, because she had him unsecured and asleep at the back of an open convertible as she zipped around Malibu with curlers on her hair. California traffic enforcers recommend that babies below 20 pounds should be strapped into car seats facing the rear of vehicles.

recaro-young-traveler.jpgChild safety laws are not as stringent in our country (do they exist at all?), but if you’re the kind of mum who never leaves anything to the cruel hands of fate, you might be interested in these high-tech kiddie car seats from Recaro. Recaro, as you may know, is a well-known manufacturer of car seats favored by racecar drivers.

The Recaro Young Seats come in various forms which are all subjected to rigorous crash-testing in Germany. How to choose the right car seat for your child? Like buying diapers, it’s all about weight and fit.

Recaro Child Seats are distributed in the Philippines by Excellar Enterprises. They don’t come cheap at P10,500 to P22,000 each. Are they worth it? New cellphone or your child’s life? Your call.

  2. aki santos Says:

    Hi,
Do you where I can buy McLaren strollers in Manila?

  3. jsg Says:

Hi, it’s maclaren… available at ATC babyland daw, though i havent checked. Chicco has some great new strollers, too… at baby and Co.

  4. mom2be Says:

Oh, saw the ads for recaro in the newspaper and was wondering abt the price… quite expensive pala.

  5. mommy matters Says:

I think spending P22T on a car seat cum stroller is so impractical. Are there any brands that are less pricey but as efficient as this?

  6. Beverly Says:

mommy matters: Yes there are several other stroller brands in the market. The RECARO brand is expensive because you’re not only paying for the German quality, but also the name and reputation of the brand.

A RECARO car seat is a worthwhile investment. Not only do these car seats go through numerous crash tests, they are bulit with comfort and quality in mind. Most of the models are adjustable to accomodate children up to 12 years old.

A lot of our RECARO dads choose the RECARO Start model for their lil ones. RECARO Start is the world’s only child seat to have a speaker integrated into the headrest. Something to keep your child preoccupied with during those long drives.

when will this site be updated?!

  8. Dawn Says:

Chicco, Graco, and an Italian brand called Neonato are more practical. My three-year-old has been using a car seat since birth. The first car seat we bought was Neonato, from SM Dept. Store. The second was Chicco and it’s more of a booster seat. We decided to get a bigger one when she got bigger. I don’t know how parents let their kids travel without car seats–it’s dangerous and extremely uncomfortable for the tikes. My daughter complains (says “Ouch!”) when she has to ride without a car seat.

  9. Recaro Says:

Dawn: What you did was even more impractical. What will you do with those seats when your kid has outgrown them? When you buy RECARO (made in GERMANY), you don’t have to buy a bigger one when your kid grows bigger. All of the seats made by RECARO are adjustable upto 12 years (or 36 kgs.) That is why it is more expensive that other brands. This is an example of you get what you pay for. It is always quality over quantity for RECARO that is why only RECARO gives 2 years warranty in all their Child seats. Secondly, Chicco is made in Italy but they are not really specializing in seats alone. They make all sort of products for kids so their R&D is not that good compared to RECARO who makes seats only. So 100% of their R&D are only focused on seats. That is why car companies, airplanes, trains, buses, etc. use RECARO. When you buy a product, most of the time you want to buy from a company who specializes in that particular product. Right? Lastly, Graco and Neonato are made in China, that is why they can sell lower than RECARO. Would you trust a product that is made in China over Germany? It’s like driving a car that is made in China vs. those made in Germany. It is always you get what you pay for naman eh. Cheaper does not always mean practical. Cheap things are not good and Good things are not cheap. Simple as that. Just decide for yourself what your child is worth.

  10. char Says:

ummm…i don’t think that all recaro seats are up to 12 years old. plus…not all recaro seats can be used from birth. you’d still have to buy at least two car seats…one for the infant stage and one for toddler and beyond.

for more info regarding recaro seats, go to http://www.recarochildseats.com. Ü

dawn: thanks for the tip! i think i’ll check out sm department store. Ü

  11. Recaro Says:

Char - The START & Young Sport models are from 9 months to 12 years. They are fully adjustable. If you want to use them for newborn babies, you just have to buy a comfort padding. For basket types, you just have to buy the Young Profi Plus. You can check the website for the proper age groups (ECE Groups) per seat models.

Also, the website you mentioned are from Recaro USA. Our products are from Recaro Germany so this is the proper website to check: http://www.recaro.com

  12. May Says:

Not everyone can afford a recaro car seat, some cannot even buy A car seat for that matter. “Any car seat is better than no car seat at all,” according to Consumer Reports magazine. Plus, recaro car seat or not, if the seat is not properly installed, the seat is practically useless. So triple check the instructions on how to install your child’s car seat.

See consumerreports.org for other car seat manufacturers.

  13. Lorna Says:

Quite interesting but expensive. Are all recaro seats forward and rear facing adjustable? Are they airplane-safe and approved by the airlines? What is the cheapest seat that fit to a 7-month old baby?

  14. christie Says:

so, where can we buy recaro car seats in the Philippines?

  15. drmckimmy Says:

My boyfriend have loads of brochures of Recaro baby car seats. He often goes to Banawe pa just to check out on the stocks and to see it personally.

He adores ‘em so much and wants our baby to have this kind of car seat (we specifically want the Young Sport in white). We’ll gonna be investing in Recaro since we don’t want our baby’s safety at stake. We consider it as an “investment” since we’re sure to use it for our future babies or if not it can be used naman up to 12 years old so OK pa rin.

We’re expecting our first-born come March 2008 and recaro car seat is in our to-buy list. :-)
