paul-joe-corrected2.jpgWebmaster’s Note: Check out the invite to the Paul and Joe launch, found at the end of this article.

The French-Japanese makeup line of Paul & Joe is available exclusively at Rustan’s Makati, starting February 2, 2007.

French designer Sophie Albou launched a men’s clothing line in 1995 named after her sons, Paul and Joe.  Two years later, she ventured into ladies’ wear, and a year after that, she started a cosmetics line.

We got to try two products from the makeup line (shown in photo), sent to us by the good folks from Rustan’s.  Click on the jump to read our verdict.

The Paul & Joe makeup line Pressed Powder in #4 (light pink compact in photo) P2125 - Very subtle but effective.  Applied as a finishing touch to an already made-up face, this gives a brightening, dewy texture without the tacky disco-ball shine of more intense highlighters.

Face Color in #26 (dark pink compact in photo) P1100 - This shade of blush, a cross between berry and old rose, is not easy to find.  So we were really thrilled that the folks at Paul & Joe chose this particular shade to send to us.  Looked absolutely perfect with the yellowish undertones of our skin (gives instant perk like gel blush, but doesn’t look as teeny-bopperish) and doubles as eye color, too.

  3. KV Says:

From what I heard, it’s more expensive than Mac, but cheaper than Shu :)

  4. Webmaster Says:

  6. Ruby Gan Says:

    that’s nice! i like Paul & Joe!
I hope the people at Rustan will put out some testers so customers can really try the product! can you imagine, they just launched the Tali Shine cosmetics but there were NO testers available! nakabalot lang sa plastic for people to see.. wonder if they really plan to sell the items or simply display them..
    uh???

Can we print the invite to the launch so we can attend?

  9. Webmaster Says:

Hi Ki! Yes, you may print it out and present it to the counter this weekend to get free beauty treats.

for anyone who’s interested, lipsticks are 1175 a pop–more expensive than mac but a little cheaper than shu, nars or ysl. i still prefer ysl but paul and joe lipsticks are already at the top of my list. the pressed powder on the other hand cost a little over 2k. cleansers–at least the foaming wash–cost 1450 for a 200ml bottle. i’d say the prices are reasonable. my only gripe is that they should change the staff manning the counter.

Paul and Joe sponsored the makeup for our org’s fashion show, The Indie Intersection: Street Fashion Night For Young Manila. Check out the multiply site: theindieintersection.multiply.com. Paul and Joe really has a lot to offer, aside from its pretty packaging. The formula goes on very well, too.

  12. The Indie Intersection: Street Fashion Night For Young Manila Says:

Kudos to Paul and Joe. This is really one of the best makeup lines in the world! Not to mention the makeup artists are really easy to work with. All makeup from our show, courtesy of Paul and Joe. Check out their counter at Rustans Makati one of these days.

I heard Rustan’s is bringing in more high-end brands next year such as SK and Bare Escentuals. Has anyone tried these products? You can’t buy them anywhere in the Philippines right now.

  14. Cez Says:

I’ve tried Bare Escentuals and I really love it! Unfortunately, it isn’t available in the Philippines yet. But I know someone who sells it by ‘tingi’. I just hope Rustan’s carry the brand soon.

  15. Jacquelyn Says:

Hi Cez, I heard about that girl in one of the posts here. What do you mean tingi? She doesn’t sell full sized jars?! Please send me her website address. Thanks a lot! Can’t wait to get ahold of some BE! You guys should try these products… Unlike any other brand talaga! Galing ng coverage plus it doesn’t irritate your skin like MAC. Once you go BE, you wont go back hehehehe although I still love MAC. Hahaha!

  16. katie Says:

I know someone who sells BE and other mineral make ups…here’s their website
    http://www.barebeautyonline.com and beautyandminerals.multiply.com =)

  17. Jacquelyn Says:

Oh yes thats the girl, katie! Her name is Claude right? She was very accomodating. BE’s gonna be the next craze, for sure!!! Kaya inunahan ko na hahahaha

  18. katie Says:

yes, her name is Claud and she’s very accomodating =), she sells full pots and she’s got samples too if you want to test drive the products first =)

  19. xengie Says:

i love Paul & Joe! it leaves a natural finish. its actually comparable to my faves; shu, bobbi and mac. and the prices.. just perfect for its ultra chic packaging and luminating effect.

  20. maci Says:

i saw paul and joe add in sam oh! i was really very impressed and im flying o manila just to meet paul and joe:) in rustans makati right? any landmark?so i’ll not get lost?…

  21. gabbie Says:

i know somebody selling bare escentuals also but it’s not claud. I get my full jars from her. http://bareEscentuals.multiply.com

  22. Dawn Says:

I LOVE BARE ESCENTUALS!!! I always have someone bring it over for me from the States. I’m thrilled to find out that there’s someone here who’s carrying the brand. I’ve been searching for it forever here in the Philippines, at Beauty Bar (where the closest is Youngblood) and Marrionaud. I’m really hoping Rustan’s will sell B.E. soon.

  23. Yannie Says:

^ me too!!! so happy that BE is locally available na. claud has all the items from sephora. i tried buying from that store gabbie but shes always kulang. si claud has more than 100+ colors and all the compacts and quads. plus her prices are awesome! halos pareho lang sa sephora.

tried sophie also thanks to katie. great brushes!!! thanks for the reco katie!

  24. katie Says:

=)your welcome girls,im happy too with my mineral make up, claud and sophie are just great =)

  25. gabbie Says:

when i ordered kasi from claud the items look tampered with. the reason for buying the full pots is that i hate samples.

  26. Yannie Says:

^ soph is just great katie! shes super nice and gives a lot of free items. si claud din pero mas madaming freebies si soph hahaha im really inlove with mineral makeup. will never go back to clinique again! im already thinking of my next purchase, sa payday pa haha what other brands are locally available aside from these katie? have you tried babydoll?

gabbie, that is so unlikely. my first mineral makeups were from claud and shes been very consistent naman. i’ve ordered around 4x na from her, pati friends ko. packaging is not that great for samples though but what the heck, shes the cheapest seller i know so i dont care haha well im sure susans a great supplier too =)

  27. katie Says:

haven’t tried babydoll yannie….is it a good brand too?=)right now, my purchases are mostly from claud and sophie…im sure other suppliers are just as great too!=)
im addicted na rin sa mineral make-up..dami ko rin gustong bilhin haha=)
