No Pain, No Gain
by KV Villareal, Web and Mobile Producer
How much pain are we willing to endure in the name of beauty?
Waxing has always been an ordeal. But like what they say: no pain, no gain. This form of momentary, self-inflicted torture is just a small price to pay—in the name of soft, smooth, and most importantly, hairless skin.
For waxing newbies, here’s a little 101. There are actually two techniques: the hot wax, which is the most common, and the cold wax, which is also known as body sugaring.
Lay Bare Waxing Salon makes use of homemade, sugar-based, all-natural cold wax jelly. They also use the patch waxing technique (also known as the hand method), instead of the strip waxing method of when using hot wax. Lay Bare’s style of waxing actually makes the procedure relatively painless.
I’ve always been a hot waxer, just like most women, so the idea of a cold wax was just so intriguing that I just had to try it myself.
The difference is in the hair-removal method. With the hot wax, it’s like everything is being ripped off from your body…even your skin! And if it’s not done properly, there’s actually a risk of getting slightly burned. What’s more, your skin can only take so much of the hot wax. And because you can only “strip” one area a number of times in one session, you’re not really assured of being completely hair-free.
With the hand method using the cold wax, hair is removed one small area at a time. First-timers wouldn’t be as hesitant, because the waxer can adjust to your pain threshold. Consistent waxers can even snooze a bit, once they’ve gotten past the initial sensation. The patch waxing technique ensures that even the finest strands of hair are removed, the rest being plucked using tweezers, while the cold wax doesn’t sting so you can make sure that you’re absolutely hairless afterwards.
Owners and siblings Fiona, Monique, and Paolo Hilario decided to put up their own waxing salon to give people more than what beauty salons can offer. What’s really nice about Lay Bare is that it doesn’t look too feminine, so male clients (Yes, they actually have more than a handful of them!) won’t feel so dyahe about going inside.
The most popular services for women are still the Brazilian and lower leg waxing, and eyebrow threading. For men, on the other hand, are the face, chest, and Brazilian, plus eyebrow threading.
Here’s a complete list of their services. We’ve yet to try the Full Body wax! It includes the face, chest, back, stomach, derriere, legs, and a Brazilian. Try this out and they could throw in an eyebrow threading for free

wow, this is interesting. and it’s actually cheaper that the waxing services at CAND (California Nails & Day Spa). gotta try this!
March 1st, 2007 at 10:12 am
Yup, it’s most definitely cheaper than most salons
Give it a try and let us know what you think!
March 1st, 2007 at 12:38 pm
I’ve always been a cold waxer, but this is definitely something worth trying, and they have a branch in QC! Thats near our place.
March 1st, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Try it out, kira! The couple of hours that I was at Lay Bare were the most relaxing for me the past few weeks
March 1st, 2007 at 4:56 pm
is that 150p for both underams for women?
March 1st, 2007 at 5:03 pm
I haven’t tried waxing ever since, how long will the duration be for the hair to grow back? Quite interested in this. Thanks
March 1st, 2007 at 5:21 pm
How much does it hurt to have a Brazilian?
March 1st, 2007 at 5:30 pm
will definitely try this.
March 1st, 2007 at 5:30 pm
ann: Yup, for both underarms
Surprisingly cheap their prices, no?
Pattie: Well, hair usually grows back in a few weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows. It’s recommended to have waxing done every month, if you want the hair to grow back finer and less, uh, dense (for lack of a better term).
Faith: Each person has his or her own pain threshold. There are some who would absolutely cringe at the thought of getting a Brazilian, while some consider it a necessity. If it’s going to be your first time, then it’s suggested that you take a pain killer about an hour before you have yourself waxed. Also, don’t hesitate to tell the waxer to stop every once in a while, so you could get used to the pain first. I personally think that it’s best to try the cold wax if it’s your first time to have get a Brazilian, because hair is removed in patches. Just imagine how less painful that is compared to the strip technique of a hot wax
March 1st, 2007 at 5:33 pm
pinkfortune: Cool! Tell your friends about it too
Best to set an appointment to make sure that you won’t have to wait when you arrive.
March 1st, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Thanks KV! Will definitely try this place out.
March 1st, 2007 at 5:59 pm
Cool, let me know what you think
Don’t stress yourself out with thinking of how much it might hurt and all. Just try to relax
March 1st, 2007 at 8:24 pm
No eyebrow waxing? Threading only?
March 1st, 2007 at 9:49 pm
where at palanan? just in time for summer! =)
March 1st, 2007 at 10:45 pm
notsolillulu: The eyebrows are best shaped kasi when threaded
But you can also ask them if you can have your brows waxed instead.
chica: 5081 Filmore Street
Perfect for the bikini season indeed!
March 1st, 2007 at 11:09 pm
how much time do you think it will take for the full body wax? and i dont know if it was just a typo or something but doesn’t the full body wax include the arms? really interested in this..
March 1st, 2007 at 11:46 pm
my hubby is coming back from the states and i really want to surprise him with having my full body waxed, but it will be my first time and my problem is when to get it, like how many weeks or days before he arrive, cause i certainly dont want him clinging to me when im swollen
March 1st, 2007 at 11:48 pm
oh yeah i forgot to add, whats the difference between the bikini and brazilian wax?
March 2nd, 2007 at 12:13 am
i’ve been into hot waxing ever since..may i ask what’s the cause and treatment of a chicken skin..whenever im done with wax, after 3 days when hair grows back, they are so itchy and i scratch them…leaving sometimes a zit or small lump..hope someone could help me…
March 2nd, 2007 at 3:25 am
been at lay bare and tried the bikini wax. one word — ooouuuccchhh!!!. it’s a lot more painful than using hot wax because they had to strip off the cold wax a couple more times than usual when using hot wax. it was the first time i had to ask the wax-er to slow down. also, “it” was never trimmed.
i still like getting bikini waxes at regine’s even if they use hot wax. it’s faster, less painful and very professionally done.
March 2nd, 2007 at 4:07 am
I tried hot wax on arms it was so Hot so I had too tell them it low the wax
I never tried cold wax maybe next time.
at first it was hot cuz I never wax before so it was painfully, brazillian wax ‘Hurt’ more then bikinin wax.
March 2nd, 2007 at 10:11 am
nice legs!! try LAY BARE.. nice staff, cozy place.. reasonable price.. perfect!! NOTHIN CAN BEAT THAT!
You’ll love LAY BARE!!
March 2nd, 2007 at 10:14 am
Once you go bald, you’ll never grow it back! I’m a lay bare regular. Love it!!!
March 2nd, 2007 at 11:15 am
jolly: Nope, no typo there. We asked Monique and that’s what the Full Body wax includes
I’m just as interested in it as you are, so I might give it a try sometime soon.
princess: Don’t worry, I don’t think you’ll swell. That usually happens when you have a hot wax done. But to make sure, best to call them up and find out when you should have it done, like how many days before your hubby arrives
A Brazilian is when you have EVERYTHING removed, while a bikini wax leaves a patch of hair.
kikay: Ah, the ever-pressing problem of the chicken skin. I’m actually in the process of writing an article about that here on ShopCrazy, so watch out for it
Best not to scratch your skin. The zit or small lump is an infection, which happens when you scratch your skin with unclean hands. Or actually, even if you don’t. When the hair follicle is removed, the pore is open. That’s why they usually apply some sort of cream, to make sure that bacteria or anything else can’t get inside the pore.
vanillarama: To each his/her own, I guess
For me naman, the hot wax was way more painful than the cold wax I had done at Lay Bare, even if my last one was a couple of months ago pa. Hmmm, that’s odd. They should ALWAYS trim your hair before doing any waxing. Did you get the name of your waxer? Maybe you can tell Fiona or Monique about your experience. They’re really nice girls and I’m sure they’ll do their best to better their service
michelle: That’s the problem with hot wax, because we have difference levels of tolerance. Let us know when you finally get to try the cold wax
A Brazilian will definitely hurt more because you’re having EVERYTHING removed. There are certain areas down there which are more sensitive talaga.
-mhel-: Oh, let me just point out that those legs aren’t mine
Dythe: And I’m a convert! I’m most definitely coming back to Lay Bare
March 2nd, 2007 at 2:04 pm
hey! I tried brazilian at tinette an co. and they’re ok, both the staff and service. but this one is cheaper got to try this out.
March 2nd, 2007 at 2:41 pm
wow this place is really near us. i think i’ll give it a try soon. i used to use cold wax on my own but i find it too much of a hassle doing it on my own. so i think i’ll check this out very soon. thanks for the review and for posting the rates as well.
March 2nd, 2007 at 8:46 pm
Ouch! Waxing is not my thing.. Laser Hair Removal is the best, around 8 sessions and your hair is gone permanently!
March 2nd, 2007 at 10:42 pm
jacq: Definitely cheaper, no? Nagulat nga ako when I found out about their prices eh
dohteeh: I used to do hot wax on my own, but it was too much of a hassle. Besides, I’d rather enjoy the experience and relax, so better to go someplace talaga than do it on your own
Vulva Volvo: Hmmm, I read somewhere that hair isn’t really removed permanently through laser hair removal. Rather, they just grow back really really fine. Though I may be wrong, so I better do my research on that first
If the procedure does permanently remove your hair, then it’s a good option. Though not everyone can afford to have it done.
March 3rd, 2007 at 1:30 pm
where is this located? thanks.
March 3rd, 2007 at 11:28 pm
Where is Scout ybardolaza street in quezon city? very cheap? might try it soon…any feedback on laser hair removal?….still expensive and will your hair really grow back?…I have been thinking about this especially now since summer is just around the corner!
March 4th, 2007 at 1:48 am
what about the venue? at makati? is the place nice and all? my waxer also uses cold wax (home made for 1k home service) but im willing to try this one out if nice yung place
March 4th, 2007 at 4:40 am
~ ka [3] na ~: Please check the end of the post for location details. Thanks!
Jennifer: Scout Ybardolaza is the first street after Timog corner EDSA, which is GMA 7
From Timog, you turn left on Ybardolaza. Lay Bare will be on your left soon after
katey: I visited the Quezon City branch since it’s nearer to our office, and the place is pretty cozy. I believe some of our magazine editors have visited the Makati branch as well
You can check it out first and see if the place suits your standards. But I think it’s pretty comfy and privy
March 4th, 2007 at 11:07 am
nice article! ü placing pictures, prices and reading different feedbacks really help:)
hmm, nakakaintrigue tuloy yung laser hair removal.. how much does it cost? sana kasing effective ng belo but cheaper.. *wish, wish* hehe..
kse dba if you remove nman lagi, for example, sa armpits, magiging darker?
March 4th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
wow, thanks for this. i’ve been too scared to try the hot wax eh. cheap pa yata ito
March 4th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Gusto ko ‘to itry
Cheap nga siya
Pero hindi ba nakakahiya magpa-brazilian wax? Lalo na sa first timers like me
March 5th, 2007 at 10:07 am
glitter: Awww, thanks! And I totally agree. I love getting feedback from other readers when I’m reading an article. It gives me all the different angles
I’m thinking of a separate underarm care article, since a lot of women are really wondering about the best way to remove underarm hair, how to avoid and get rid of chicken skin, and how to maintain and whiten underarms.
Kix: Medyo masakit nga yung hot wax, but if you’re a first timer, then this wouldn’t be traumatizing
Lei: Try it out! And don’t worry, waxers are so used to doing Brazilian, so hindi nakakahiya. Perhaps at first lang, when you lay down and bare all. But afterwards, wala na yun
If you want, you can try doing a bikini wax first, so you can get used to the feeling.
March 5th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
can you actually do a brazilian wax on yourself? probably not a brazilian wax really but are there creams you can use so you can achieve the same effect as the brazilian? what brand is available if there’s any?
March 5th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
I personally don’t think it’s possible to do a Brazilian on yourself. As for creams, I wouldn’t try using any on myself either, because it’s best to be careful as to what we use down there. I’m not so sure if there are any creams made for below-the-belt hair removal, but I’ll try to find out and get back to you
March 6th, 2007 at 8:33 am
do hair removal creams work on underarms?
March 6th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
hi, gotta try this… in nearer in the makati branch so please post how to go to filmore street in palanan? thanks.
March 6th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
KV, what’s a bikini wax?
Shy ako kasi mabalbon talaga ako… So imagine not having down there waxed
Siguro naman meron mas mabalbon sa akin na nagpawax na hehehe. Sige I’ll try this one. Thanks!
March 6th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
will go this week to try Lay Bare its near my place a few blocks away. i always got to Emphasis and Cans for my waxing.
March 7th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
secret: I’ve tried using a hair removal cream on my underarms once before, but I never did it again. I still prefer waxing
hazy: You can call either Fiona or Monique so they can give you exact directions from where you’ll be coming from
Lei: Hey, don’t worry about that! All Brazilian waxers went through the same thing. I mean, it’s not as if they were already hairless the first time they had themselves waxed diba? A bikini wax sorts of just cleans your hair down there. So basically, you can just have the hair that peeks out removed. You can wear one of your skimpiest undies, then have the hair that’s outside of it removed. It’s really up to you
pretty gorgeous: Try it out and see if cold wax and Lay Bare is for you
March 7th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
this post is timely! i was about to get a brazilian wax at Basement salon (P1000) this week, I might as well go an try out this place first!
March 7th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
DH: Just in time, huh? Check the place out!
March 7th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
KV…any feedback on laser hair removal? will your hair be gone forever? how many sessions? there are so many clinics that offer this (like facial care center, belo even lets face it) but which is the best and of course, not that expensive? Thanks!
March 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
Hi
can anyone give me a landmark near Lay Bare? i’m not quite familiar with the streets in Q.C. Is it near tomas morato? Thanks!
March 8th, 2007 at 12:49 am
Hmmm…service is relatively cheap to all the other places I’ve tried. I must try this one!
Brazilian is alot better than laser hair removal. 2 of my friends have done laser hair removal and it really doesn’t ‘disappear’. Hair ‘below-d-belt’ still grows even after 15 laser treatments!…It’s still worth going for a regular Brazilian anytime!
March 8th, 2007 at 2:21 am
Been looking for a place in PI. My wife likes it clean and I can’t stand shaving down there. Will be coming through Manila on the way home to Maylaybalay city soon. How do I get to this place to try it out, sounds like a better way then shaving which I hate.
March 8th, 2007 at 9:52 am
i got a brazilian at this place as a birthday gift from my sister (thanks, sis!) last year.
must say, it’s my first time, and they were gentle!
will definitely go back for more of their other services
March 8th, 2007 at 10:09 am
hi jennifer. re: laser hair removal, i got the treatment from Marie-France for my armpit. I must say, it’s really effective! Even though I still have 2 more sessions left (because you can’t do laser removal while breastfeeding), my armpit hair is almost gone, with only a few strands left–which will most likely be gone when I use my last 2 sessions. The only setback is Marie-France laser treatments are very expensive–which is understandable for the service they provide. You’ll find dermas or other clinics offering laser treatments at a much lower price, but be sure of the quality of their treatments
March 8th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
just got a brazilian last night and i must say that they are good!
will definitely go back for more!
March 8th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Jennifer: I agree, there are so many places that offer laser hair removal. I think it’s best to save that for a separate article, so we can talk about it extensively
Mj: Scout Ybardolaza (the street where Lay Bare is on) is near GMA7. Where exactly will you be coming from?
Lalaine Madeleine: Totally agree with you there
I think that having a Brazilian done regularly will give you more or less the same effect. Because you’re removing the hair by the root, it’ll take a longer time for it to grow back, and it’ll be much finer after regular waxing
JD: Shaving down there is practically the worst! It’ll itch like crazy when it starts growing back. Plus, you wouldn’t want to get nicks down there right? And I don’t even wanna begin talking about ingrown hair. If you’ll just be passing through Manila, then maybe you can check out their Makati branch, so it’s near the airport.
CLT: I’d most definitely recommend this place for first-time waxers, especially those who’ve been wanting to get a Brazilian
March 8th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
from the mrt gma station… what will be the next thing to do so that i can go to the lay bare..
March 8th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Melainey: Thanks for the info!:)
KV: I hope you will write about laser hair removal soon! Thanks! ;0
March 8th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Hi KV, if i’ll be coming from Santi’s, how can i locate lay bare? thanks for replying!
March 9th, 2007 at 9:19 am
maine: From the GMA station, just head down Timog Avenue, on the side of GMA7. Scout Ybardolaza will be the street at the first stoplight. So you make a left there. Lay Bare’s just about a block away, and it’ll be on the left side of the street
Jennifer: We’ll most definitely keep you posted, so keep on checking ShopCrazy
Hair removal is just one of the “issues” us women face
Mj: Hmmm, Santi’s. It sounds familiar, but I can’t quite recall. Where is it exactly?
March 11th, 2007 at 2:01 am
hey kv! this was the best experience..no pain talga! thanks for posting this.
March 11th, 2007 at 2:08 am
btw, i highly recommend Eden, she was so nice and accomodating. and she even had funny stories during the session. tee-hee.
March 11th, 2007 at 8:07 am
hi kv. this is really intriguing. i do wanna try this place. just one concern though. i usually have my legs, underarms and bikini line waxed at either bioessences or mendez. both of them apply toner pre-wax and toner, oil and an anti-inflammatory ointment post-wax. the ointment really does keep the redness, mild bleeding and swelling at bay. id like to ask what lay bare’s pre and post wax regimen are. thanks a bunch
March 12th, 2007 at 11:34 am
I’ve tried Brazilian waxing for the 1st time at Natural Spa (P900) in katipunan & it did hurt….a lot but after that it was really awesome not having hair down there, I would definitely try out my next session at Lay Bare Waxing Salon:)
March 12th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
i just had my bikini wax last saturday and it was my first time.i can say that for me the pain is tolerable.
Eden was the one who did my bikini wax…
March 13th, 2007 at 12:16 am
hi KV, may i just know how long a normal session of bikini wax and brazilian wax would last? im a fisrt timer and would like to try it. tnx
March 13th, 2007 at 5:45 am
masaya magpawax… hehe. i began shaving almost as soon as my pubes grew out. for hygiene and well, i’m just more comfortable that way. sometimes, i let it grow out but i get sooooo obsessed about it. i already tried the brazilian wax at Lay Bare Face and i have no problems with it… mabait staff, malinis at maganda ambience, sulit pa
March 13th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
kira: No prob! Relatively painless, right?
And yes, I’d most definitely go back to Eden! She’ll always have interesting stories to tell
tebi: Pre-wax, they apply baby powder so that the wax wouldn’t stick as much to the skin, only the hair. Post-wax, they apply an anti-bacterial cream, if I’m not mistaken
Anonymous: I suggest that you try Lay Bare next time you have your Brazilian done, and I’m sure it won’t hurt as much
Anonymous: Pain is definitely more tolerable, and bikini wax doesn’t hurt as much. Will that be your jump-off point for a Brazilian?
nikki: Oh cool, I fully recommend this place for first-timers!
The bikini wax will probably take less than half an hour. But the Brazilian will most definitely take longer, because it will also depend on how much hair one has down there. If you’re getting a Brazilian, best to allot a maximum of an hour and a half, to be safe
angela: Hehe, a testimonial from a happy waxer, I see!
March 13th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
hi kv, i’m planning to go to Lay Bare pretty soon.thanks a lot for the info!just a few questions though:
-is it really important to set an appointment first before going there?
-how long does the hair grow back after waxing? (in the bikini area and underarm)
-does the hair have to be long enough for waxing?how many centimeters should it be at the minimum?
-will underarm waxing get rid of all the hair even the short ones?
thanks! looking forward to your response!
March 13th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Hi Erika, glad you found all the info useful
To answer your questions…
Though it’s not an imperative, it’s best to set an appointment first so that you’re assured that someone will work on you when you arrive.
Hair growth varies from person to person, but it roughly takes around a week before hair starts growing back, slowly and more evenly this time.
Usually, hair should be around 1/4 of an inch before you have yourself waxed. Best to confirm this length again with your waxer.
The hair that can’t be removed by waxing will be removed by hand, through tweezing.
Hope I was able to help you out
March 13th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
thanks KV for your immediate response! i’ll definitely visit Lay Bare one of these days and i’ll post here whatever feedback i’ll have.
March 14th, 2007 at 9:52 am
You’re welcome! Let us know how your visit goes
March 17th, 2007 at 6:06 am
HI DER! QUESTION LANG PO… since I’m a first timer and dont have any information about this waxing thing, im just curious about this bikini waxing… Is dis waxing the perinial area(vulva) or in laymans term our pubic hair? funny question but would love to know if this indicated for this certain area… hehe
March 18th, 2007 at 10:31 pm
Hi KV! You article was timely. I read about Lay bare in a magazine and I even checked their website. However, it was not updated. Good thing you came out with the article because I found out the they opened a branch nearer to my place.
I tried their QC branch last Saturday. Cold waxing is definitely less painfull than hot waxing. Nga lang, I got lost going there I ended up in Kamuning! I had to call Fiona. Buti na lang she was helpful and gave me directions. There wasn’t a big sign kasi on the street so if you’re driving, you’ll probably miss the sign. To other readers, Lay Bare QC is in front of Sunday barber and beside a laundy service, 2 blocks after the church.
March 19th, 2007 at 9:30 am
Teody: Yes, bikini and Brazilian waxing both refer to the removal of hair down there
ish-mish: Glad my article was able to help! I’m not from the QC area myself, so the first time I visited their place, I got lost and ended up on the other side of Ybardolaza Street
But I’m glad you got to find their place. Fiona and Monique are really nice people, very accommodating
Thanks for giving those landmarks to our readers!
March 19th, 2007 at 11:34 am
i have tried hot waxing several times, but since i read this article, i have set my mind in trying cold wax for a change. i visited lay bare makati a few days ago and i would say that cold wax is not as painful as hot wax and much more cheaper. i also tried their threading, it’s painful though, coz it’s my first time to have my brows threaded but i was sooo glad with the results. the attendants were also very accommodating =) i would definitely come back for another session. more power lay bare! =)
March 19th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
I share your pain, chiquit! Eden, from the QC branch of Lay Bare, can attest to that. I personally feel more pain when she’s threading my brows, compared to when she’s waxing me! Hehehe
But I guess it’s just a matter of getting used to it, after having it done regularly
And best not to shave the brows too, so the hair won’t grow back thicker, thus making it more painful the next time you have your brows threaded.
March 19th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Do you do Brazilian waxing on men? I would be a frist timer and just not sure if I could handle the pain or embrasiment. I know that I’m uncertain at this time and I will be leaving from here next week! What are your hours? I have a limited amount of time to do this and would probably be a walk in. I’ll start with the back just to see if I can handle it. Is there a phone # that I could call somebody and ask questions?
March 19th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
Yes, Lay Bare does Brazilian waxing on men, as shown in the price list above. They open as early as 9am. If you have a limited amount of time, then it’s best to set an appointment to make sure that there’s a waxer who can accommodate you at your preferred time. Contact details are at the end of the article
March 19th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
Hi. How long ang Brazilian, full leg and underarm?
March 20th, 2007 at 11:03 am
Hi Charl, it’s best to call Lay Bare to find out around how long it’ll take
It usually varies from person to person. But I suggest that you allot at least two hours for all three that you want to have done
March 20th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
I really want to try the Brazilian wax. It’ll be my first time. How is it done?
March 21st, 2007 at 4:05 pm
i just called lay bare to set an appointment and the attendant told me that the full body wax even included arm waxing. is this a new feature?
March 21st, 2007 at 5:01 pm
Reena: They usually trim your hair first, then dust you with baby powder. Then they start waxing, and with your consent, they can also tweeze the remaining stray hairs. After, they apply some anti-bacterial cream
mary: Hmmm, let me confirm again with Monique, one of the owners of Lay Bare
March 21st, 2007 at 5:24 pm
Hi, Thank You for responding so quickly. How late are they open?
March 21st, 2007 at 7:26 pm
to JD:
Both branches close at 9 PM.
to KV:
Really, you found the threading more painful than the brazilian? I also had Eden for the waxing and the threading.
March 21st, 2007 at 8:28 pm
I dread threading more than waxing. I suppose different people have different pain thresholds.
March 22nd, 2007 at 9:51 am
ish-mish: Funny that I find threading more painful than waxing. But then since Jennifer seconded, then I guess I’m not so weird after all
March 23rd, 2007 at 10:56 pm
hi kv! =) when will you post the article for underarm waxing? i’ve been using veet cold wax strips for two to three months now. and the last time i used it, my underarms turned red that stayed longer than usual. then my underarms eventually became a bit dark. what should i do? thanks a bunch =)
March 25th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
hey mygirl, i share the same sentiment in using veet wax strips! my UA turned red and now i’m dreading the sight of my dark underarms..
March 25th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
hi, just wondering how long it usually takes for the hair to grow back after a brazilian? i had mine done at lay bare a week ago, and i expected to remain completely hair-free longer. i found that the hair is starting to grow back and i’m not as smooth as before
does hair usually grow back this fast for first-timers? and also, if you get waxed regularly, does the hair grow back slower?
hoping for some feedback thanks!
March 25th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
oh yeah for those thinking of getting a brazilian, make sure you schedule it about a week AFTER your period ends. you’re less sensitive to pain then. this is according to jimvy of the QC branch of lay bare.
i hurt A LOT during my first brazilian cause my period ended just a few days before. warning lang!
March 26th, 2007 at 1:44 pm
I love the place! It was so cozy when I went there… plus, I was there on a weeknight so I had the place all to myself… had a great chat with the girl-on-duty for almost 2 hours while I got waxed. I was only supposed to have a Brazilian but enjoyed myself so much I went ahead and got the underarms, legs and arms waxed as well.
I’ve already convinced my 2 friends (hot waxers) to come with me on my next appointment to try it out.
March 26th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
@KV and mary:
yesh, I think the full body wax covers the arms too. You save a lot of money. The half-legs + arms + underarms + brazillian + threading costs P1450 whereas a full body wax (which includes the brazilian) costs only P1500 with free threading service!
Just make sure that you tell them you are getting a full body wax when you make your appointment, since a full body wax takes about 4 hours (daw) if only 1 attendant is available. Let them know in advance what service you need done so they can prepare the manpower to get you finished in 2 hours.
March 28th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
hey girlfriends! I had mt brazilian the other night lang. yup it was painful but i’m ready na for my beach tom! plus I had a threading…
…it was less painful than hot wax!
March 28th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
Hi girls! I’ve been having brazilian regularly since two summers ago. So far, I’ve tried hot waxes from the following: Jessie Mendez Park Square — my first brazilian — and like most firsts, it hurt. But the waxer was very nice and talkative, it got me through the process. Its a shame that they don’t offer the service now, so I switched to Brazilian Bare in U, Glorietta. For a time they closed down for U’s renovation so I tried brazilian at David’s SM Makati (Connie). When Brazilian Bare relaunched in Glorietta, I tried it as well, but with a different waxer (I will look up the waxer’s name) who strips wax faster (I think quick waxing diminishes the time for pain to sink in). I have yet to try Lay Bare although my sister has been there recently to do her brazilian for the first time. I’m out of the country now, so it would be a great thing to try this out when I’m in PI.
March 30th, 2007 at 2:40 am
I’ve been thinking about visiting Lay Bare, did you gals give tips?
March 30th, 2007 at 5:27 pm
mygirl: I owe you girls that post, just keep on checking ShopCrazy for that
Erika: Dark underarms is just one of the biggest problems of girls!
jmarksthespot: Hair regrowth varies from person to person. Usually, hair starts growing back after a week talaga. But having yourself waxed regularly will make hair grow back slower and strands will actually be less coarse then before.
DH: I’ve confirmed it with them too, and the Full Box Wax includes the arms
Actually, it’s practically everything but your eyebrows, eyelashes (of course!) and the hair on your head! The whole process will really take a long time, roughly 4-5 hours. So best to set an appointment for this one
jacq: Good for you! Now you’re really ready for the beach
Noiebun: Try out Lay Bare when you get back to the country! With hot waxing, the trick really is to pull the strip as quick as possible. But I personally feel that it’s still more painful than Lay Bare’s cold wax
swoosh: What do you mean by your question?
March 30th, 2007 at 5:33 pm
wow. thanks for the helpful article.I’d definitely try Lay Bare since I plan to go to Pagudpud for the holy week.
Just a question though, when will be the best time to have my legs waxed? I seem to remember an advice of sorts years ago not to wax the day or two days before hitting the beach.
Thanks.
March 31st, 2007 at 11:18 pm
hi, i meant.. like in a salon, when you get your hair cut or treated, you usually give tips right?
April 1st, 2007 at 1:47 pm
i just visited laybare last monday and i must say i was really satisfied with their efficient and affordable service..i’ll definitely come back in the coming weeks..eden did a nice job with my eyebrows and UA..i hope i’ll have the guts to have a brazilian/bikini wax next tym..:)
April 2nd, 2007 at 9:50 pm
thanks KV. am planning to go back next week for my 2nd brazilian
April 4th, 2007 at 11:18 am
krystelle: It’s best to have yourself waxed a day or two before
And then you should keep the area clean (no lotions or anything) for at least 24 hours.
Have fun in Pagudpud!
swoosh: Uh, we’re not really talking about haircuts and hair treatments in this article. It’s about hair removal
But yes, you can ask for tips.
Erika: Eden’s great, no? I love their service, even in their Makati branch
I hope you get to try even just a bikini wax!
jmarksthespot: Oh cool, that’s great! Have it done regularly and they say that hair strands will definitely grow back more fine
April 7th, 2007 at 1:34 am
hey there… i’m definitely going for a brazilian one of these days! i tried using lotion for the hair down there (sally hansen’s) as advised by a saleslady. i don’t think one is supposed to apply it there. its dangerous, don’t you think so? anyway, what are the landmarks sa branch nila sa makati? thanks!
April 7th, 2007 at 9:40 am
its really close to Cash N’ Carry Supermarket
April 11th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Hi ya all had bcsdone on the 28.Eden was my waxerand i thought she did a good job. When I got home I was surprised to fined that she had missed alarge patch in the crack also somehairs on the sack. Being Iwas a first timer she was very gentle and yes I found that ithurt but not as bad as expected. Have been going to my doctor though because I broke out on the back really bad. Don’t know why! My wife loved the effect and I really was pleased as well. Oh and for those of you that think of going for a cheap thrill just don’t, Eden was totally professional.
April 12th, 2007 at 10:30 am
miss maldita: I don’t think it’s really advisable to use lotion down there. Really sensitive skin.
Like what nicole said, the Lay Bare is close to Cash ‘n’ Carry
You can give them a call to make sure. You won’t get lost naman, so don’t worry
JD: They’re all very professional, so no one should really think that they can come in for the thrill of something else. I’m not so sure about the breakout though, maybe you should ask your doctor or ask Eden also, maybe she knows. It could be your skin’s reaction to the waxing, since it was your first time. Or maybe a reaction to something else.
April 12th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
Hi, is there a lot of parking spaces in Lay Bare QC? Thanks
April 12th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
As far as I can remember, I think there’s enough space for like 2-3 cars? Best to call them up to make sure
April 14th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
hi, thank you so much for this article. i passed by lay bare (palanan branch) months ago, and i am pretty convinced with all your testimonials here!
ill be having a brazillian on monday!!! first time. wish me luck
April 23rd, 2007 at 11:58 am
i got a tip from my derma. if you feel itchy “down there” a few days after your bikini/brazilian wax, you can use a little hydrocortisone cream. she also advised me to use hypoallergenic soap for a few days so as not to irritate the area.
i think most derma clinics sell hydrocortisone cream. i use it when i get rashes on my arms/neck. really soothes the itching.
April 24th, 2007 at 11:45 am
i’ve learned about lay bare at Us Girls last week. they did a feature on it and when i saw the price, i really want to try it. it’s a lot cheaper than let’s face it. i have a bikini wax for 330 and their brazilian was 660. you can imagine how thrilled i was about the price.
i can’t wait to try lay bare after reading your post and all the comments.
but the thing is, i’m from cavite. don’t they have another salon near my area? i haven’t checked their web site yet.
thanks for the post!!! i’ll surely gular on this site.
April 24th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
KV: Do you know of any long term effects of waxing? My friend says the hair on her legs are slower in growing back and are finer. What about the hair “down there”?
April 26th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
hey!… just want to let you guys know, I had my 2nd waxing the other day.. it was less painful the first time. I guess if you’re having it regularly your pores will be used to it and lessens the pain..
April 26th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
im quite nervous about that bikini wax coz it will be my first time…
but i really wanna try that… =)
May 1st, 2007 at 8:42 am
just had my 2nd brazilian at lay bare yesterday! thank goodness it didn’t hurt as much. i was out of there in just 15 minutes!
May 2nd, 2007 at 4:08 pm
tried brazilian wax at lay bare QC yesterday. it really doesn’t hurt as much as hot wax does.
i had my first brazilian wax at CANDS, where it costs much higher. so double ouchie, right?
but prob is, cold wax isn’t as effective. unlike hot wax, some of the hairs weren’t (or couldn’t be?) pulled out from the roots.. day one palang (which is today), may stubble hair na. hindi smooth..
May 4th, 2007 at 7:40 am
i used to have my brazilian using hot wax, now i’m a convert! cold wax is less painful and smoother for me.
May 5th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
Hey! i just want to ask if anyone here tried the laser hair removel at Mendez medical group? i am really interested in having my Underarm hair removed permanently..or atleast almost.
Melainey: how much did you spend for the laser hair removal at Marie-France?
May 8th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
i tried the laser hair removal of mendez, im in my 3rd session already and so far the best branch ive tried is at roces ave. malinis sila gumawa not like in parksquare na masyadong mabilis.also the machine they use at roces is better, you can really see the hair falling off.
May 11th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
how sanitary is the waxing procedure?
May 11th, 2007 at 11:36 pm
I’ll try the full body soon
May 28th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
i’ve been there and their price is really affordable. the staff are very nice and bubbly.
May 29th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
hi,, question lang.. kasi my problem is my underarms are dark.. sabi nila dahil daw sa pagshashave so hindi ko sya shinave for 1 month.. obviously, mahaba na ung underarm hair ko.. nkakatulong b mgpaputi ng underarms ang waxing? hndi ba nkakahiya kung mgpapawax ka and ang haba ng hair?
June 9th, 2007 at 5:43 am
Hi Sheila,
Yes waxing helps in making your underarms appear whiter due to the fact that it makes your hair finer when they grow back. Plus, Lay Bare uses cold wax containing kalamansi which has bleaching properties. Technicians have performed underarm waxing on tons of men and women so they’re used to seeing hair of various lengths. Don’t worry about it!
June 15th, 2007 at 1:32 am
Hi! planning to have brazilian done in lay bare.. i have read in one post here that it would hurt more to have it done a few days after your period, is it really true? im going to boracay next week and sadly i have my period this week which means that i would be doing it only a few days after.. now im getting scared about the “it hurts more” issue…
June 18th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Hi Catalyst,
Based on my personal experience, it hurts more before than after your period so I think ur okay.
June 21st, 2007 at 6:51 pm
angelica,
Ive tried the hair removal at mendez — and I think its not that effective. I dont know if its just me, but me and my sisters had ours done 2 years ago. Infact we got a 10 session treatment. They told us that after 8 sessions the hair will be really thin or if your lucky it will be GONE. But a month after finishing our 10 sessions. Hair starts to grow back. It is still the same as before. SAYANG the money..
But if you wanna try it.. I think Facial care has their version and from my friends it is more effective. I should have tried facial care.. The ads of mendez was just tempting since its way cheaper. Thats the price you pay for BETTER RESULTS.
June 24th, 2007 at 2:56 am
How can I go to any Lay Bare branch from Mendiola? I need exact directions.
Thank you very much.
June 24th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
I think Mendiola would be closer to the Makati Branch. (I’ve been to both) From Nagtahan Bridge go down to South Super. Slow down once you hit Zobel Roxas. You will see a building named “Larry’s Curtains” turn right on that corner. Lay Bare is on the next corner which is Filmore. Have fun!
June 25th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
I’ve been having Brazilian waxes for the 6th time now here in Singapore (check-out http://www.strip.com.sg). It was my girlfriend’s idea ever since she had hers done. The first time I had it was painful but the subsequent visits were no longer that painful. After the stripping, your skin will be red and sore but my therapist usually apply some cold mask to keep the swelling and soreness down. She also gave me a cream that’s antibacterial, moisturizer and one that prevents in-growth of hair. The hair takes about 2 weeks to grow and that’s the time when it is really itchy. Avoid scratching down there as much as possible to prevent infection. By the 4th to 6th week, your hair is long enough for another waxing. BTW, I’m not gay, my girlfriend just love my Brazilian wax and I also love hers. In Singapore, girls are really into Brazilian waxing and most girls I’ve met had a Brazilian wax done. The bushy pubes are almost extinct here. I didn’t know waxing is already popular in Manila. I hope to try Lay Bare when I get back to Manila. And I hope to meet Pinays who’ve done Brazilian waxing…so we can compare notes.
June 26th, 2007 at 10:56 am
had my first braz at Lay Bare QC yesterday and i loved it! my waxer was very accommodating, the place (although a tad small, only two cubicles) was very cozy, and very affordable (P450)! no regrets!
July 6th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
Hi Everybody,
My last Brazilian wax was when leaving for Iraq. That was on 16 April. The Ladies that took care of me are the best. You had one that was brand new and had never waxed a man before and when they told me this I said go ahead and teach her on me. It turned out she was very nervous and didn’t feel comfy. Sorry but she did very well for somebody that only had a week or two waxing. Can’t remember one of the ladies names but Mari-care and her was just great.
I was the only person in the store and since it was just after lunch hour they went ahead and took care of me and did a great job. Oh Ya they had to pull out a maginfining glass because some of my hairs had grown in white from the first session. This was only my second time and I had Eden the first time and I can say that all the girls where absolutely great.
That was all the good stuff now for the bad. Don’t go on long flights after you have a waxing, chances are that you’ll become infected like I did. Simply put you can’t take proper care of yourself. It took many weeks to heal from the infection and it really did hurt. Must state that I’d do nthios practise always if I could, but with the correct timing and the availability of the doctor if I need one.
My wife has been so impressed with the brazilian that we are opening a hair solon in Malaybalay. It will be called AJ’s. We will offer waxing as well in do time. This is the fifth solon in town and we will be offering more services then any other. We are hoping to pamper the customer with great service and a wonderful attitude. We will also offer massage services at a later date. Anybody down in our neck of the woods stop by have a beverage and say hello while you relax a minute.
Thank You JD

hi! i’m planning to have my first brazilian wax and i just have concerns like i’m prone to have a rash or two even just after trimming down there becoz of the itchiness, do you have any idea what i could do so that after the brazilian i could avoid gettin that and if ever i do get the itch and bump, what can i put to relieve it? and which lay bare branch does better brazilian and less painful? can u recommend a waxer in makati lay bare? thanx much!
July 13th, 2007 at 10:34 am
few days after your bikini/brazilian wax, you can use a little hydrocortisone cream. also try to use hypoallergenic soap for a few days so as not to irritate the area.
July 13th, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Cia: thanks for the help.. are hydrocortisone creams available over the counter at drugstores? or prescription would be needed? do you have an idea how much it costs? thanx!
which lay bare branch does better brazilian and less painful? can u recommend a waxer in makati lay bare? thanx much!
July 28th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
hi…I just set an appointment with calayan and belo for consultation since i wanna try their laser hair removal but im still having 2nd doubts. I used to tweeze my armpit hair but later hurt myself in the process and it takes a lot of time so i just shave na lang…but u know shaving is really the worst thing u could do coz the hair grows even more faster.I read about the brazilian in Lay Bare is it really more preferable than laser hair removal for the armpits? Thanks so much…
August 4th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
Could Someone tell me if I can make appointemt. for Cold waxing . I will be in Ermita On August 10th this year . will depart on the 14th . I am an American male , need back and chest waxed . Thank you Robert
August 5th, 2007 at 8:54 am
Hi! Is it safe to get a brazilian wax when you’re pregnant? I’m about 3 months pregnant but I’d like to get a brazilian. The last time I got waxed was in April. Thanks!
August 5th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
Hi Robert! I think Lay Bare has a cellphone that you may text or call. I belive it’s 0917-LAY-BARE. Good luck!
Hi Sophie! I have friends who have had the brazilian done even while pregnant. If you’re used to getting it done I don’t think it should be a problem. Although you could be more sensitive to pain and bruising.
September 4th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Just to inform everyone dont give in to the perks of Mendez’s discounted laser treatments it IT DOESNT WORK AT ALL. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. NOT EFFECTIVE. i’ve tried it myself buti nlng i just took 5 sessions.
HAS ANYONE TRIED LASER HAIR REMOVAL at Facial Care center or Marie France? How much? does it really work?thanks
September 14th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Hi Angelica! It’s 44k for the underarm package
September 14th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
where exactly in makati is this? i’m on buendia. not really good with street names. pls msg me, i will definitely go there. thanks
September 15th, 2007 at 11:11 am
Hi julienne, Lay Bare in Makati is along Filmore St. near cash & carry. If you’re coming from let’s say chino roces ave (along buendia) it’s the next street after the railroad crossing(in front of the gasoline station) turn right at filmore St. then go straight ahead it’s in the corner of fahrenheit & filmore sts. just beside lavandera co. (left side of the street) you won’t get lost. Hope this helps anyway you can check out their website at http://www.lay-bare.com. Everything you need is there including the price list and contact nos. By the way i’ve tried their underarm wax, it’s really good and takes only about 15 mins.
September 21st, 2007 at 2:50 am
im not satisfied with laybare, the job on me was very messy and there was a lot of hairs left over!
aside from that the one who did my wax (forgot her name but she was wearing braces i think – qc branch) kept on telling me how she hated brazilian cos apparently some of her clients have a smell down there! i got really self conscious esp when she mentioned how icky it made her feel esp when some of us girls started getting wet down there, i mean hello thats normal right? sigh, anyway im NEVER coming back there and i even discouraged my friends not to go there.
i prefer to call selleria for home service waxing, they use GiGi hot wax and they are very thorough, not a single hair is left!
September 27th, 2007 at 10:31 am
Hi Cher,
I am sorry to hear that you had a very bad experience at our QC Branch. Rest assured that the moment I read your post I talked to the technician involved. I constantly remind the staff to not talk about their experiences with other clients especially since we are in a business that values privacy. I really don’t know what caused this slip up. They are now required to wear face masks and one reason for this is to refrain them from talking with clients especially those who just want to get waxed in peace
I can give you a complimentary brazlian should you give us another chance and I’ll make sure that you’ll enjoy the experience the next time around.
My apologies again and do text or call me for other issues you may have thru 0917-LAY-BARE.
Thanks,
Fiona
October 5th, 2007 at 9:01 am
Hi,
I’m constantly on hunt to find wax salons here in the city, and it was very satisfying to know that there is one that serves even men… hehehe. I found one before but it wasn’t satisfying since there were a lot of hairs left in my forearm and there were even bumps that were very itchy after 3 days or so, I was wondering if the antibacterial cream that is applied in laybare is good even for sensitive skin? I’m really planning to go in Makati branch since it is nearby. Thanks.
October 6th, 2007 at 11:10 am
Hi Reb,
The cream we use is available most anywhere and it’s supposedly to guard against common skin conditions so i would think that it would be safe for sensitive skin since people with sensitive skin are more prone to reactions.
Some customers actually buy the cream from us but we constantly remind them that this is not to be used as a lotion that is applied frequently.
Overdoing it could lead to rashes and skin darkening (as i experienced myself) So now I just apply it after every waxing procedure.
Hope this helps,
Fiona
October 9th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Sophie: Actually, it’s best if you don’t, not even shave. When you shave, your skin kinda gets scratched; when you have yourself waxed, your pores are open. Hence, you’re more prone to infection down there. And since you’re pregnant, there’s a higher chance of getting infected. So I suggested that if you really feel the need to be clean down there, so to speak, just trim
I understand where you’re coming from. I’m already 30 weeks pregnant and I’ve been DYING to have myself waxed but my ob-gyne, childbirthing class instructor, and even Fiona of Lay Bare advised me not to do so
October 9th, 2007 at 4:01 pm
i got my first brazilian wax last month at lay bare and i’m coming back to have the my hairs removed. Hair grew back after three weeks and this is much better than shaving… saves you more time, more hygienic and definitely sexier and it also saves you from unwanted cuts and ingrown hair.
October 10th, 2007 at 5:18 am
Hi Fiona,
I’m getting married soon and I was thinking of having a Brazilian wax. This is gonna be my first time and I don’t know how the waxer will do it and how long it will take. I’m having doubts den kse parang nakakahiya.. is it? Well it sounds like most people here are sanay na. Is it really worth it? I think I read something that some people think of it as a necessity. I was thinking of getting a Brazilian, full leg and arms wax. Will it be better if I just get a Full Body wax? Thanks!
October 13th, 2007 at 2:44 am
hi fiona, i assume you’re from lay-bare. can you please check your website because it doesn’t seem to work properly. i’ve been trying to visit it for a few weeks now and the links don’t seem to work properly. i don’t know if it’s just my browser though.
October 13th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
Heaven: Thanks for your visit! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Maj: Rest assured that all our technicians have performed the brazilian on countless clients, both women and men so super sanay na sila.
If you wanna be totally hairless on your big day, I suggest you go for the full body but do it at least 3 to 5 days before the big event
Pixie: I have the same problem with my browser but when I have others check the site, the links work fine. We are currently upgrading it and hopefully the new and improved website will be up by month end. Thanks for your patience.
Do not hesitate to text or call me thru 0917-LAY-BARE should you have other concerns!
KV: Thanks for helping me out with questions and good luck on your pregnancy! Listen to KV girls, she gives great advice.
October 16th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Thanks Fiona, for the best wishes and the compliment too! A couple more months to go!
October 25th, 2007 at 9:47 am
I’m thinking of having my legs waxed but I’m afraid, that when the hairs grow back, they will be thicker and blacker.
Once, I shaved my legs, when the hairs grow back they were longer and thicker.
October 25th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Fiona,
What cream should I use after having brazilian wax for the first time and how can I be sure I wont’ be allergic to it, since I have sensitive skin?
October 25th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Hi Christina,
Waxing actually makes your hair grow back finer and more sparse so promise it won’t come out thicker!
We apply an anti-itch/anti-bacterial cream right after the procedure. This should be enough. Your skin could be red and sore for a couple of days though but this is just normal. If it bothers you, you may apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly. But it’s best to just leave it alone and it should be back to normal in 3 to 5 days after a brazilian wax for really sensitive people.
November 13th, 2007 at 12:14 am
Fiona,
KV advised not to have oneself waxed while pregnant. Does this also include underarm waxing? Is it still safe for me to have my underarms waxed eventhough I’m almost 6 months pregnant?
Also, how many days/weeks should I wait after giving birth before it is safe for me to undergo any brazilian or bikini waxing procedure?
Also.. I haven’t really tried waxing… so it would be my first time. Are there any pre-waxing tips i should take note of to make my first waxing experience less traumatic and bearable?
November 13th, 2007 at 8:24 am
Hi! May I know how much Laser Hair Removal for the Bikini Area and Underarms is at Facial Care Centre and Marie France? Thanks!
November 13th, 2007 at 9:04 am
Underarm laser removal at facial care center costs a whooping P44k! haven’t tried it though, too pricey for me. not sure if they change the price.
November 13th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Hi Diane,
There is actually no scientific rule that says waxing should be avoided when one’s pregnant. We at Lay Bare just do not recommend the bikini or brazilian wax (while expecting) since it could cause discomfort and/or pain that we’re afraid might cause contractions and even premature labor. The other waxing procedures are fine and we’ve had numerous pregnant women come in for underarm or leg wax until full term.
As for getting it after giving birth, I’d say give it at least a month if you gave birth normally for a bikini wax and 2 months for a brazilian (and check with your OB that your episiotomy has completely healed). If you had undergone a CS section then I’d say as long as you could walk and move about and again that your cut has completely healed it would be safe to get it done but do ask your doctor na rin for a second opinion.
We usually tell clients to take a pain reliever to make the waxing procedure more comfortable and to wait 2 days after your period ends and at least 5 days before the start of your next cycle but since you can’t do either then the only thing I could advise you is to relax while getting it done. Most areas don’t hurt one bit and are even comfy enough to make most clients doze off…it’s just the bikini and brazilian procedures that could keep you awake the whole time.
On a personal note, I totally refrained from waxing by choice when I was pregnant as well as coloring my hair and getting manicures and pedicures. I was a first-time mom so I was kinda praning! But rest assured it’s perfectly safe.

For me, Selleria Pamper Me at Home has the best services when it comes to massage and waxing! I always get from them. Rizza or dory for massag and christine for waxing!
You can call them at 7465180 or check out their site at selleriamanila.com

Hi Len. Facial Care Centre’s Laser Light Removal is more than P40K. I got mine almost 3 years ago (just before I got married) and my underarm only has a few strands left (since I had to stop the treatment while I’m still breastfeeding). I highly recommend them…very effective (not like the parlors/salons sa tabi-tabi

Hi Fiona,
I have been to your salon twice and truely was happy with the services I received.
I work over seas and only get to be home in the Philippines every four months and only pass through Manila. It isn’t always possible to get by for waxing in the little time my flight times allow.
I’m a American and my wife and I live done south. She has taken great interest in what pleases me and her and has even been learning how to wax.
Our problem is we can’t find the wax that you all use and I believe that it is the best to use. Could you help us find this product so we can wax each other. We are learning to be closer in our relationship and this would be a great way to help us.
Oh by the way I had problem with a rash and found that a Hydrine 1% cream really worked well in clearing it up.
Again Thank You for a great service and Job done well. JD

I just had a “painless brazilian wax” at Suriya Spa, the branch at Crowne Plaza and I must say it was definitely done painless! They do their work professionally plus the technicians were very hygienic and clean.
The cost is triple the amount compared to Lay Bare, however if you are going to get something done to your”down there”, you might as well splurge and get the best treatment.
However, I will also try Lay bare one of these days!
December 31st, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Hi JD,
Thank you for your email, the tip about the cream, and your kind and reassuring words
I know other parlors and salons offer sugar wax as well but I am not sure if it is available for retail sales. Ours is home-made and we only sell our wax to franchisees. Unfortunately this is a company policy. And waxing is actually quite tricky esp cold wax!!!
Your wife must be a really fast learner! It takes us 2 to 4 weeks to train a technician.
I do hope you’d have time to visit us on your next trip to Manila. Looking forward to meeting you and your wife
Happy New Year!
Warm regards,
Fiona

hi i just like to know pag bikini wax lang ba tinitrim din nila yung hair na matitira? and kasama rin ba sa winawax yung hair sa butt? its embarassing pero i need to know. tnx
March 14th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Hi Sophie,
The bikini wax only includes the waxing of the outer lining of the pubic area. We may trim the remaining hair by request although it is not normally done. The anal area is considered as part of the brazilian and not the bikini. Hope this helps!

Fiona,
I had my legs waxed at your Makati salon, and the people there did not wear masks, nor did they put any kind of lotion or cream on my legs after waxing. But they were kind, and they asked if it was ok that 2 of them work on my legs since matrabaho daw whole legs and nakakapagod.
March 17th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Thanks for your feedback. I’ll remind the staff in Makati to follow SOP to include wearing of masks and applying of the cream after the procedure. I am not sure why they weren’t done. Rest assured that we’ll do our best to prevent this from happening again. We appreciate your visit.

also had my brazilian done at lay bare QC. the technician who did my brazilian, UA and EB did not wear mask either. no biggie naman for me. i was only kinda expecting them to wear one coz of what i read her. but i will definitely go back.

hi…i’ve tried the underarm cold wax of laye bare and was satisfied with the results, mga 2 weeks before the hair grew again. Just a question…i used to pluck my underarm hair when i was in hi scl and there were times when it would bleed. Don’t know if my skin is too sensitive or my way of plucking is wrong. So now I have these small scars and I noticed i had this small lump (kinda like a mosquito bite) and it won’t disappear. Help me naman what should I do? Please make affordable suggestions naman coz im still in college and don’t have that much money to spend on these things. Thanks a lot..
March 21st, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Whew! what a long thread! I haven’t tried salon waxing but recently i tried veet cold wax strips on my underarms! Big big mistake! Not effective, strip can only pull very very fine hairs, red skin afterwards (burn probably)! Good thing I got a derma cousin who prescribed me with fucicort cream (applied 2x daily). U can get it at mercury drug. My underarm was soothed and a slight peeling occurred which probably prevented skin darkening.
March 22nd, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Hello Fiona, I’m actually scared and shy to try the brazilian wax hehe. Any tips for a first timer? Btw, regarding the BDJ coupons is it also accepted at the BF Pque branch?
March 22nd, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Hi Kittkatt,
Thanks for sharing that with me. When I do my surprise visits the staff makes is a point to wear their masks. I’ll tell them again to wear it even when I’m not there.
Hi Ivee,
I’ve heard of your condition although I don’t have first-hand experience. My best guess is for you to see a derma for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. Sorry that I couldn’t give any other advice.
Hi Bea,
Thanks for sharing that tip! We’ll keep that in mind just in case
Hi Lei,
Yes, we will honor your coupon at our BF branch
Don’t worry all first-timers are always scared and shy
My best tip would be for you to take a pain reliever at least 30 minutes before the procedure and relax! Rest assured we’ve done this hundreds of times
Good luck!

Hi Fiona,
I recently tried the brazilian at Lay Bare because lots of people really have good comments about your place. It was my first time and I was a bit disappointed. I was just a bit surprised because I expected that the staff would be more organized. The one who did the procedure wasn’t wearing a mask and it seemed that something was wrong with the consistency of the cold wax that day(she told me). She had to go out several times to tend to phone calls and incoming customers. Not sure where the other people were.
Hope something can be done with this.
March 23rd, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Hi Les,
Thanks for sharing this with me. I guess after three customers telling me here (in a matter of just days) that the staff do not wear their masks, I really have to sit down with them and reiterate the importance of wearing one. I personally apologize for the bad experience. We have been very busy lately and are in the process of training new people for us to be able to handle the current workload. May I ask which branch you visited? There is one day during the week when only two techs are on duty and when this happens my sister or myself make it a point to be there and assist. I will meet with the staff and our Store Supervisor and make sure that this doesn’t happen again. Thanks for at least giving us a try.
Regards,
Fiona
March 24th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Hi Fiona,
I went to your Makati branch on a weekday and there weren’t any other customers at that time. It doesn’t seem that they were busy entertaining other customers(that I would understand if there’s a sudden influx of customers), but more of the staff attending to me was alone.
Good to note though that you’re very hands on with these things. Thanks!
March 25th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Oh yes Les my sister Monique and I are very hands-on.
Yesterday we already met with the staff to change their skeds aside from training new people. We normally just have 1 tech opening at 9AM and the 2nd person comes in at 10am. Effective today we have two opening to be able to handle calls and clients coming in at the same time. Thanks again for pointing this out so we were able to fix it at once.
Hope you come visit us again!

March 25th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
You’re welcome, I’ll visit Lay Bare again soon =) Forgot to mention that the staff was really nice and friendly. Explained well what was going to be done, what to expect etc etc, made it less scary. I think Shine is her name? Should be commended.
March 25th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Yes it’s Sunshine
They’re supposed to wear their IDs too but some clients have complained about them being a hazard so we will now stick to name plates
Bad news though is that since Sunshine’s been doing very well she got promoted and will be assigned to our office in San Juan by May
Looking forward to your next visit Les!

Hi Fiona,
I just heard about Lay Bare last week from my friend and I became so excited about Brazilian wax. So just this afternoon I finally got the chance to visit your branch at Filmore. It was my first time so I was really quite shy at first but your super kind attendant named Shine made me feel very comfortable. It was a bit ouchy at first but after the procedure it was truly worth trying. I also had my upper lip waxed and it was also great. My dream of finally having a “hair free” down there has finally came true. I’ll surely be your regular client from now on.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Hi, I am near Sacred Heart Church in Kamuning. Kindly give me the specific instructions on how to get to your salon from the church. Also, when doing brazilian waxing, will it be done on a seperate room or just an enclosed area with no door? thanks
March 28th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Hi Kathy,
Thanks for your email. Glad to have pleased you!
A lot of clients claim that once you go bald you’ll never grow it back and it’s been true for me. It just feels cleaner and fresher being hair-free.
Looking forward to meeting you sometime!
Hi Ann,
We are very close to Sacred Heart Church. If coming from Kamuning going towards Timog, we will be on the same side as the Church just 2 blocks up. We are right on the corner of Scout Rallos. Our complete address is Mezzanine Floor, AC Building, 38 Sct. Ybardolaza.
We have waxing cubicles that are separated by very heavy curtains and are secured by velcro. Don’t you worry they are very private.

this post dates a year back. so are the prices still that cheap?
April 9th, 2008 at 12:49 am
crystal: yes, same prices. just had my underarms waxed 2 weeks ago at their palanan branch. i must say my friend and i we’re v.satisfied. if u had hot wax before, the pain with cold wax is very tolerable. my friend and i vowed to make this a monthly date.
April 9th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Hi Kaye! Yes the prices are still the same and they shall remain so thanks to loyal customers like Crystal and all the others who have visited and continue to support us
Thanks for your post, Crystal! We appreciate it very much.

I have chicken skin on my underarms and I’ve read that waxing would sort of reduce it. Is this true? I’m still studying and could not afford laser hair removal and treatments as such.. And I’m really scared because it would be my first time (to get waxed)… Does it really hurt? Advice please.
April 11th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I finally got to try Lay Bare’s services and I must say that the staff are very professional and friendly. I got itchy bumps right after, but an hour after they’re gone so it doesn’t really bother. I was excited to see my legs and arms hairfree talaga, only to find out that it was not done thoroughly. Ang daming hairs natira. Yaicks!
April 11th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Hi Anna,
I don’t know for sure that waxing may reduce chicken skin but based on experience it is less traumatic than plucking with a tweezer or laser hair removal
There will definitely be a bit of discomfort when it’s your first time but the underarm wax is our most common procedure so rest assured you’d be able to go through with it!
Hi Carol,
Thanks for your feedback. It is common that baby hairs are left on your arms even after a wax procdure because they don’t stick to the wax. A solution would be to thread it but this stings too much
On the legs it’s very tolerable and techs are advised to used a magnifying glass to ensure that no hairs are left. If you have time to stop by soon, we’ll redo it for you. My apologies for the inconvenience.

Hi! I plan on getting a full body wax this weekend hehe
Kind of like celebrating my 20th birthday, leaving teen years behind, something like that…
The full body wax doesn’t include the arms noh? Kasi it says “face, chest, back, stomach, derriere, legs, and a Brazilian” lang… Hmm, feeling ko my body will feel a little sore after! haha!
April 15th, 2008 at 2:24 am
Hi! I’d just like to inquire, because I’m planning to get a brazilian tomorrow but I just had my airbrush tan today. I’m planning to go to Bora in two days, so I’m also quite in a rush. Would the waxing remove some of my tan down there? I’d also like to know since I just ended my period two days ago, would it really hurt more if I had the brazilian almost right after my period? By the way, I’ve also read in some of the comments here that there are sometimes some left over hairs for some clients? I was just hoping that if I would get the brazilian here, there won’t be any left over hairs. I hope the questions may be answered as immediate as possible since I only have few days left ’til Bora. Thank you very much.
April 15th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Hi Fiona.
I went to the Makati branch too and found that the three girls who did my whole body wax did not wear masks (especially for the one who did my brazilian). Also, I expected them to clean the anal area as well but they did not and I didn’t insist anymore since I felt awkward that they didn’t ask me to. I just didn’t want to insist. Lastly, there were still some strands of hair left on my legs but again, I just didn’t want to be a demanding and difficult client. Please follow up with these Fiona. I will still be back at your salon as I am happy that the hair has not grown back yet and it’s been some time since I went to your salon. I am extremely happy at how fast the whole body wax experience became, as well. Thank you, Fiona.
April 18th, 2008 at 8:25 am
Hi Kate,
The full body wax includes everything from face to toes
with complimentary eyebrow threading. Happy Birthday to you! You get 15% off because it’s your bday month.
Hi Mika,
Apologies for the late reply! I don’t know much about tanning so I am not the best person to answer that question. As for the left over hairs, I can reassure you that we take everything out middle and bottom areas (you’ll also be asked to turnover so we can take care of the anal area) but the top portion since hair is more coarse there will always be some left and the option is to tweeze or thread them but most clients refuse to do this because it is rather painful. I personally leave them behind and it doesn’t bother me at all.
If you can take the pain there should be no problem with us taking it all out and you may even check using a mirror that the job was complete
Hi Aika,
Thank you for your email. Technically the anal area is not part of the brazilian but since a lot have asked about it we then did it by request but now we make it sop but a lot of clients opt not to do this for obvious reasons
May you please text or call me through 0917-LAY-BARE so I may know your real name and I can check who did your waxing? I just sat down with the staff in Makati 2 times this week about not wearing masks and other items and I want to make sure the ones who don’t get penalized. They are also supposed to thread and run a magnifying glass through your legs after the procedure to make sure no hairs are left behind.
Hope to see you again soon and I promise your visit would be better!

May 8th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Hi Fiona,
I’m very interested in getting underarm and brazilian wax. I think I’ll be able to handle the underarm waxing, I’m more concerned with the brazilian wax coz it’ll be my first time and I really don’t know what to expect and the after-care procedure. Would it be more painful if I have it done after my period? Would it still hurt after and what should I apply on it? I’m really concerned on how painful it would be and I really don’t want chicken skin especially down there(which I already experience with my underarm due to plucking).
Any pre and post care suggestions would really be helpful for a first timer like me (both for underarm and brazilian wax).
Thank you so much and see you soon! I would prolly have it done in your Buendia branch.
May 10th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Hi Lei,
Thanks for your email. Chicken skin is neither caused or aggravated by waxing. I’ve never had chicken skin on my underarms or pubic area and I have been a waxer for over 10 years. I guess it really depends on your skin. I do get it on my legs though
Ingrown hair should be expected as well more on the legs than the pubic area. A cure for that would be to exfoliate daily (at least 2 days after your last waxing). It’s perfect to get your waxing done about 3 days after your last period. Getting it done before will cause more discomfort.
You make take a pain reliever at least 30 minutes before to make the procedure more comfy. Make sure you take a bath already since you won’t be able to even wash for at least four hours after the procedure. Redness and soreness is normal after a waxing. It should go away after a few hours or up to a few days for really sensitive people. We apply anti-bacterial/anti-itch cream afterwards. At home you may apply petroleum jelly but only if it’s causing discomfort otherwise just leave it alone and it should be back to normal soon!
Do visit the Buendia branch now until the 15th. We have an opening promo of 20% off until then. Or wait for the San Juan branch to open in a week’s time and we’ll also have the same opening promo.
Regards,
Fiona

Had my first brazilian last night. It hurt but very tolerable! Thank you Lay Bare! I’m a regular customer now.
Oh and Maricar was the one who did mine. I really like her, very nice and she made me feel very comfortable.
Thank you again!
May 19th, 2008 at 12:21 am
if my hair in my upper lip has been waxed, will the hair never grow back? or will it gradually?
i feel so dyahe because of my hair in my upper lip. it makes me look like a man, and i don’t know what to do. my classmates keep me teasing about it and i want my upper lip hair be permanently removed, or at least be removed.
May 20th, 2008 at 12:03 am
I have been into waxing since two years ago, have used all types of wax, ranging from hot to warm to cold. I have also tried out a lot of salons in my quest to get the best waxing service with an affordable price(since this might take a lifetime). I tried out the Branch in Buendia and here is my personal opinion with regards to their waxing service: its definitely painless. For first-timers, it will just take getting used to but if your threshold for pain is really low, then I suggest you take a painkiller just to numb you a bit but since it is done in small patches, pain should be tolerable. I have tried the underarm, half leg and brazilian. All except the half leg were done in a matter of 15 minutes (my legs were just a wee bit hairy). I guess one comment Id like to make(no offense to the owner), some hair on my legs are growing back already. It seems that some of the hair just wasnt waxed well, which is sometimes inevitable, but maybe your therapists can suggest a leg threading just to ensure that no hair is really left. The brazilian is okay but I also noticed that a few strands were left. I am not sure if you are supposed to do it all bare or just dont touch the inner parts.
May 21st, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Hi Lei,
Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. Maricar is actually one of our senior waxers. She is from the Filmore branch actually and is just temporarily assigned to the Buendia branch until end of May.
Hope to catch you at one of our branches soon!
Hi Bea,
Don’t you worry a lot of girls come in for that procedure so it is nothing to be shy about.
They normally come once a month…usually hair grows back in 2 to three weeks. In time, it becomes finer and less noticeable.
Hi Kyla,
Thanks for your email. We apapreciate feedback good or bad
Yes, threading should have been part of the procedure. I immediately called the branch after reading your message to remind them to do this. We also use a magnifying glass just to make sure that all hairs are removed.
As for the brazilian, the anal area wasn’t really part of it before and since we got so many requests, we started adding that on too. We just noticed that some clients are uncomfortable doing that and so we either wait for the client to suggest it or your technician should have asked you if you wanted to turn around (since that is the only way to get those stubborn hairs out).

im planning to go next week for brazillian wax. do i have to trim it or is there a certain length? this is my first time to have this done.

Hi Ella,
Actually it’s best not to even trim
Your hair should be about 1/4cm long to be ready for a waxing. Good luck!

Thanks!

Hi Cecille,
Lay Bare has 2 branches in Makati: Buendia and Filmore.
The Buendia branch is located at the Upper Ground Level of Star Centrum Bldg. It is right on the corner of Malugay Street. It is 2 buldings away from the Pag-Ibig Office, and across the street from ACS. Their landline is 840-2571.=)
The Filmore branch is at 5081 Filmore St. It is about 7 blocks away from Cash n’ Carry. Their landline is 833-7915.
Better to call for an appointment to minimize waiting time. =) Hope this helps!
July 18th, 2008 at 10:17 am
Hi Trin, Alex and Cecille!!!
Thanks for your posts. Sorry I haven’t had the chance to check this site in a while but I do make it a point to reply to all text messages. I wonder why I didn’t receive yours Cecille.
As Monique said better to call na rin the landlines so they can give you an answer sooner and do check out the website for our maps.

Hi Fiona,
Tried it na at your buendia branch. Nice service. Although there are still a lot of tiny hairs left.
One thing that you can do to improve the place – eliminate/terminate the mosquitoes. they were so busy buzzing near my ears while i was having the wax session.
Siguro you can also improve a little on the materials used i.e. water sprayer, etc. there are a lot of really cheap items that look elegant and expensive.
other than that, service was ok naman. maybe twas also difficult din to pluck the tiny hairs left.
with the affordable rate and good enough service, i’ll be coming back. go brazilian!
July 25th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Hi Trin,
Thanks for your post. There will really be some baby hairs left that we either thread or pluck afterwards
But this could sting especially for the pubic area!
Sorry about the mosquitoes and thanks for bringing that up – I wasn’t aware of it.
As for the materials we use pretty standard stuff. I’ll look into upgrading them for future branches
Glad to hear that overall you were happy with our services!

I had the brazilian wax done last night at Lay-bare Buendia branch. It was my first time ever to have any part of my body waxed, but Im going to a beach vacation so I wanted to be bare down there so that I could wear a swimsuit.
Astig ung technician, tanggal lahat ng hairs pati sa “backside”! Masakit din cya, but bearable. Sabi ni Ate Hap mataas daw ung tolerance ko for pain! hehe
I love Lay-bare’s service and I’ll definitely go back to have other parts of my body waxed and make sure the down there stays hair-free. Medyo uncomfy lang pala ung feeling, like I’m so exposed, but I think it’s a matter of getting used to it.

Hi Princess,
Thank you for your email. You may make a reservation even on the day you plan to visit. Just give us an hour’s notice. The best way to make an appointment is thru our hotline, 0917-LAY-BARE. Buendia would be the closest branch to you. It’s in CBD at the coner of Buendia and Malugay next to Landbank.
Best to wait 48 hours before you know what

September 20th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Hi, I’m wondering who would you recommend in your Filmore branch for a first-timer? wouldn’t it be dyahe to have your pits waxed when they aren’t so white? is it true though that waxing helps lighten it right? Thank you!
September 22nd, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Hi Anne,
Thank you for your post. Maricar is our most senior waxer in Filmore. She’s been with us for almost 2 years. You don’t have to worry about a thing – we’ve waxed thousands of underarms both white and not so white
It does improve the appearance of the skin a bit because waxing gets rid of your dead skin cells as well but not as light as getting them bleached of course

hi fiona. i’m going to boracay a week from now. i wanted to get a brazilian, but the problem is, i had it shaved 3 days ago. you’ve mentioned that the hair should be atleast 1/4 inch long before it could be waxed. do you think in 5 more days my hair will be long enough to be waxed? this is gonna be my first time. and also, you said it’s best to wait 48hrs before i can do “you know what”… is it not ok to do it after 24hrs? (tumawad pa):D
October 15th, 2008 at 4:25 am
hi fiona, ask ko lang where sa san juan ung branch nyo? i live in mandaluyong kc, via kalentong-shaw boulevard ang way ko…i can also go to buendia branch kaya lang ndi ako mashadong familiar sa buendia area…saan po mas mdaling puntahan?
October 18th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Hi Elle! Sorry for this rather late reply! Got so caught up with the opening of the Katipunan branch
Yep 1/4 cm would translate to 10 to 14 days…actually if you are a regular waxer the 48-hour rule doesn’t strictly apply
but at least wait 4 hours for your pores to close!!! Hope Boracay was fun
Hi Che! Mandaluyong is halfway from the SJ branch as well as the Buendia branch. If you are a commuter, it would be easier to go to the SJ branch since you may just take the Little Baguio/Kalentong jeep and it takes you right in front of our Building.

Hi Fiona/Monique!
How sanitary is your brazilian wax procedure? thanks! and really? 48 hours before you-know-what? haha
October 22nd, 2008 at 10:13 am
also, i forgot, is it really 3-5 days after your period to minimize tha pain? thanks!
October 27th, 2008 at 7:32 am
Hi Jessica,
Yes it’s best to get a wax no later than 3 days before your period or 3 days after. (Basically just not too close to your cycle) And the 48-hour rule is just to make sure that your pores have fully closed since the pubic area is highly sensitive and infection could easily set-in.
We use cold wax and so there is no stripping or dipping. Our techs use their hands directly though. But rest assured they wash and sanitize them before and after the procedure.

October 27th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Hi fiona! who would you recommend for first timer in your Katipunan Branch?
October 28th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Hi Annie,
The most senior waxer there would be Anne. She will be at the Katipunan branch until November 15 and her dayoff is Monday.
Fiona
October 28th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
for the buendia branch, who would you recommend for the braz wax?
October 29th, 2008 at 11:33 am
thanks fiona! after nov. 15 lang siya sa katipunan? what are the procedure before a brazilian? should i trim the hair or they will be the one to trim? im very bushy down there hahaha and i really wanna try the brazilian.
October 29th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Hi Trins,
In Buendia the most senior waxer would be our other Anne
Hi Annie,
Yes we only “lent” Anne to the Katipunan branch until November 15 but don’t you worry, Charlyn, Weng & Eva are equally good.
No need to trim, we’re quite used to brazilian virgins.
Fiona
October 30th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Hi Fiona. Where exactly in Katipunan is your branch?.I live in Cainta and I’m nearer there. I haven’t tried waxing but I’m very much encourage to give it a try as I read all the comments here. Tnx and More power!☺
October 30th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Hi Dee,
Thanks for your email. The Katipunan branch is actually on the corner of Esteban Abada and Fabian just one block off KFC Katipunan
Don’t worry more than a half of our clients are waxing newbies
We look forward to your visit!

November 6th, 2008 at 10:47 am
hi fiona. i plan to have my 1st brazilian next week for our anniv. can i have it done again by end of november? we’re goin to bora kasi.
November 9th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
hi fiona! it’s my first time to have a brazilian wax who can you recommend in your congressional branch? is it ok to put emla cream first before doing the procedure so it’s not that painful?
November 9th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Hi Maya,
Normally it takes 3 weeks for hair to grow back to a length that can be waxed already. But hairs in the bikini area grow faster so my advice would be to get a brazilian for your anniversary and just a bikini for your bora trip
Happy Anniversary to you and your man!!
Hi Cha,
It is okay to put Emla and at least a couple of clients have tried that but according to them there isn’t much of a difference
I used to take Advil at least 30mins before and that helped so better to do that instead
For Congressional, Joan has received the best reviews. Good luck!

Hi, this is Cha of Lay Bare Banawe. Call us at 7404031 if you’re in the area
Lay Bare has a Valentine’s promo ongoing this Feb 2009…
Ladies, avail of a Brazilian wax at P450 and get a free Brazilian for your male partner (worth P500)! This is by appointment only, so just call your nearest branch.
Lay Bare Waxing Salon is in QC (Banawe, Katipunan, Ybardolaza, Congressional), Makati (Filmore, Buendia), San Juan (Abad Santos), and Paranaque (Aguirre).
February 7th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
what a long thread!
I’ve been a Lay Bare customer for several months, sa QC Timog branch. Just wanted to inform you Fiona that ang daming left over hairs on my legs, pubic area and arms. These are not small hairs, big hairs na very black (I’m balbon).
The technician never used a tweezer or magnifying lens on my legs or wore a face mask in all my visits. At first I thought nga walang tweezer, and then I saw one sa table after one of my visits.
The thing I noticed is kulang sa lighting ang rooms sa Timog. Its just a small lamp that the technician forgets to move when she’s working on another part of the body. When I get home and switch on the lights, or the next morning beside my bedroom window, kita lahat ng left over hairs. The lamp barely lets your customers read the magazines, what more kung nagtatanggal ng body hair that are less than an inch long?
I like Lay Bare because its less painful than hot wax, but the work is not pulido eh. The very next day, nag-twi-tweeze ako ng hair kung saan saan. Sayang. I think siguro you had great services pero hindi na-maintain yung quality because of new branches.
I’ve been having waxes since 1990s, so I know a good wax when I see one. I’ve tried Salon de Manila, David’s, the spa at Holiday Inn Manila, Forever Flawless, Fix Salon, Brazilian Bare at Rustan’s Makati.
February 7th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Hi! Where’s the best place to get a brazilian wax? Thanks!
February 8th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Hi, my hubby and I will be celebrating our 3rd year anniversary this later this month, I’d like to inquire, how to go to your banawe branch? Im coming from sta.cruz, manila. What are the do’s and dont’s before having brazilian? thank you.
February 8th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Hi Michelle,
Thanks for your post. May you please text me thru 0917-LAY-BARE so I can get the details of your visit? We value comments like yours very much and take the necessary actions to correct whatever needs to be corrected. I’d like to know who did your waxing and why she didn’t follow the protocol and rest assured she will be reminded (again)to follow it next time.
Our Ybardolaza branch has the most senior technicians so I can assure you that even with the new branches, only the best have remained in Ybardolaza.
I hope you see us again and I will make sure you get the best experience ever.
Hi Ria,
I am not very familiar with Sta. Cruz but you may just take Quezon Avenue, and do a U-turn to get to Banawe. Turn right on Tirad Pass where you’ll see Chow King. We’re on the ground floor. Please use the Tirad Pass entrance to get to us.
Fiona
February 17th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Hi Ria! Coming from Manila, take a u-turn on Quezon Ave and turn right at Banawe. Just go straight till you see Chowking and 7-11 on your right. Lay Bare is in the same bldg, across from Orthopedic Hospital and beside McDo). You can call us at 740-4031
DO plan your wax around 1 week before OR after your period because that’s the ideal time to minimize pain. If the timing is off, you can pop a Ponstan 1 hour before the treatment, although most of our clients manage just fine without one
Also allow some time before you plan to go out, swim, bathe, or engage in physical activity because your skin is sensitive after waxing.
DON’T shave the hair before waxing! Hair should be at least 1/4in long for best results.
That’s it. Our expert staff will tell you everything you need to know about post-waxing.
March 2nd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
When it comes to brazilian wax, dapat di sya tinitipid. mura nga dami naman hair na natitira lalo na pag alam ng gumagawa na may kasunod. i’ve tried lay-bare sorry but i didn’t like it. pag di rin magaling yung gagawa pwede ma irritate and that happened to me last year.
i still prefer hot wax. I’ve read na it helps to open the pores so less ingrown hair and less painful. yung cold wax biglaan pagtanggal. kaya mas masakit.
i’m still loyal to brazilian bare in Rustan’s Makati. Yes, expensive since it’s 800. but they’re very professional and malinis.
Do check it out!
March 5th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Thanks for your post, Geena. My apologies for your bad experience. Rest assured we do our best to exceed clients’ expectations.

oh thanks i just finished reading the comments…haha…just to share wd u guys..coz I recently had i laser removal my 1st session was just bikini line but after a month & I saw the result I decided to hv to brazilian last week…It was no pain and all gain..it’s true that laser is expensiv but I found out in Joel Mendez (megamall) their prize are way cheaper. Just after the 1st bikini line session hair didnt grow anymore. It’s just very amazing..I really can’t believe it and very thankful & very satisfied on it. Imagine for only 6,500 @5 sessions you don’t have to undergo such wax pains..ooouuuch I can’t imagine that…guys try it, I wonder why people prefer wax..well u just have to be a little masipag in scouting and researching..after all we want results right…painlessly sana..try it!!!
March 6th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
hi snapsky!
yung P6,500 that you mentioned, is that for all 5 sessions? or P6,500 sya per session? is that price just for brazilian? or same price din sya for armpit and legs? thanks!
March 11th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
I’m also having problem with my legs and armpit. I’ve tried shaving, plucking and waxing. But those provided me only temporary results and left me a darker underarm. I hope you can suggest something effective to me. KV, do you have an article na ba about laser removal?
March 25th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
hi!i’ve been interested with waxing esp brazillian for a long time now but i’m dyahe kse i’m soooo bushy (sa UA and down there).also, my UA is quite dark from using deos, shaving and plucking.and to top it off,my pubes grow up to my upper thigh and the skin there i quite dark also (excess testosterone, i think).so you can just imagine the embarrassment i’m feeling just thinking about it.
but i really want to be hairfree.can you suggest the best salon and technician for me?thanks so much!
March 30th, 2009 at 8:35 am
Hi Clj,
No need to be embarrassed, Lay Bare technicians are used to handling very hairy clients
Don Antonio, Libis & our Las Pinas branches just opened and so they still offer the 20% off opening promo – it’s best to try the brazilian for less!! That will come out to P360 only for women
Hope this helps!

hi! i wanted to get ur brazilian wax in your branch in Don Antonio, Commonwealth branch. My worry is that since it is a newly opened branch, the attendants will also be new. I want to get a senior attendant since it’s going to be my first time.
June 15th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
are there guys who really go here for brazilian waxing? i’m a guy and i do my waxing at home and wants to try this place. Wouldn’t it be awkward for me to go to this place?
June 15th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Hi Lexi,
No need to worry
Our waxers have had lots and lots of practice so even if the branch is fairly new, rest assured they will do the job right.
Hi Coy,
Yes we have a number of male clients who come in for the brazilian but they’re not very many
You may want to check out our website for the exact number
Rest assured all our techs are trained to handle both female and male clients.

wow that’s a relief! my eldest daughter is only 10 but already beginning to have armpit hair. i was convinced waxing is the best way to go rather than tweezing but was afraid she wouldn’t be able to handle the pain. good thing i came across this article about cold waxing being a better alternative. and the filmore branch is just a stone’s throw away from our home woohooh! will definitely get an appointment. btw, my daughter’s name is also fiona =)
July 5th, 2009 at 6:15 am
Hi Fiona,
I live in Kapitolyo Pasig. Where will be the nearest location of Laybare that I can go? I’ve never tried waxing and wants to try Laybare due to great feedbacks.
July 9th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Hi Jane,
Hope you and your Fiona were able to visit us already
Sorry for this really late reply.
Hi Arlene,
We have a branch opening in Ortigas this end of July. If you cannot wait that long then the Abad Santos branch in Greenhills would be closest to you. You may give them a call at 744-7129.

Hi,
Do you get all types of clients? Meaning ones that come in all shapes and sizes? Hehe I’ve always wanted to try getting a brazilian done but dyahe kasi I’m a big girl and medjo shy.
July 12th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
Hi! I’m a regular at Lay Bare Katipunan and yes I can attest that I’ve seen customers in all shapes and sizes. No need to fret cause the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Good luck with your brazilian
July 13th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
I’m just curious. I plan to get a wax however, I heard from a friend that using cold wax makes you more prone to ingrown hair? is this true. I really would like to have a wax in Lay Bare though. However i don’t want the ingrown hairs
July 14th, 2009 at 12:15 am
How soon can you have sex after a brazilian?
July 15th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Hi Amy,
We get clients of different sexes, ages, shapes, nationalities and sizes!!!
Hi Jean,
Thanks for the support!
Hi Pinkcrayolas,
Any type of hair removal method e.g. shaving, plucking, hot or cold wax could cause ingrown hair
Hi Susie,
It’s best to wait a day or 2
Fiona
July 16th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Hi Fiona, do you have any products which i can use after i get a wax from you guys to prevent ingrown hair?
July 16th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Hi Pinkcrayolas,
At the moment we don’t have any products for ingrown hair but any glycolic acid formulation should be helpful and regular exfoliation of course
Fiona
July 19th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Hi,
The orange one hehe
Is kojic acid soap okay to use?
July 22nd, 2009 at 9:45 am
Hi Fiona,
I just had a wax last month and there are some hair already going. They said that cold wax needs to have the hair longer for it to be removed better. How many inches should my hair be before i can go to Lay Bare and have it pulled out again? :-/
Also how much is the cost if i want to remove some here on the “puson” area. Just that area not the v area.

Hi Fiona!
Im planning to visit your Congressional Branch soon! It will be my first time to do the Brazilian and full leg. who will you recommend? Thanks.
August 8th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
are the rates still the same? 150 for women’s underarms? uhm.. from LRT katipunan station, how do i go to your branch? thanks!
August 10th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
I’d recommend Strip Ministry of waxing in Serendra Fort Bonifacio, tried most of the waxing salons in Manila, and hands down this is the best in everything from the process up to the products. They really take care of your body part. Plus its all over Asia, heard it just opened in London. It must be really good for it to be all over. I’d prefer to go to a tried and tested brand. You really get your money’s worth. The wax even smells yummy… feel asleep during my brazilian, thats how good it is
August 13th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Hi Jane,
The most senior techs in Congressioanl are Lyn and Irene
Sorry for this late reply and hope you were able to make it to their anniversary weekend last August 8 and 9
Hi Sugar,
Yes, we still have the same rates
From the MRT we’re just a few blocks down on Katipunan. You just have to walk through Fabian Street which is where KFC is. We’re on the next block on the corner of Fabian and Esteban Abada. Sorry too for this late reply.
Thanks,
Fiona
August 14th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Hi Lay Bare,
I’ve read several reviews about your salon in the internet.
I’ve been preparing myself for an underarm wax for quite some time now. I’ve been tweezing all my life, but recently I thought about the possible good effects and the convenience of waxing.
I really want an excellent technician on my maiden trip. I’m nearest to your Katipunan area. Whom do you recommend?
Thanks!
August 18th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
Hi Tina,
Good luck! Waxing is definitely less hard on your skin than tweezing
You may look for Charlyn or Eva. They are the most senior techs in Katipunan.

Hi! I’m 16 years old but I already have a problem at my legs TT_TT
I always shave it everytime the hair grows back what kind of wax can permanently remove the hair
Because I don’t want to be balbonin >.<
October 3rd, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Hi Sara,
Laser would be the (almost) permanent cure to your problem. As for waxing, you would have to do it once a month but hair should grow back finer in time
Fiona
October 19th, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Just saw your post today, sorry for this very late reply. I don’t see your email address next to your name so you may just visit lay-bare.com and it has our price list. Underarm is 150 for women, 200 for men and the Brazilian is 450 & 500. Our website also lists our branches.
Thanks and happy waxing!

January 22nd, 2010 at 8:50 pm
you can also try “brazilian lush” body sugaring salon. they use cold halawa paste and they don’t use tweezers or thread anymore because they can really remove the hair from the roots with their procedure. the therapists won’t stop until they remove all the hair on your armpits or legs.
It’s in Don antonio heights, commonwealth. first body sugaring salon sya in the philippines because the rest are called waxing salon.
January 23rd, 2010 at 2:28 pm
I am a Lay Bare loyal customer! I usually go to the Sct Ybardoloza branch or the Congressional. They are very nice and gentle. You’ll surely give the ates a very hefty tip
February 3rd, 2010 at 7:05 pm
ey! I tried Brazilian Lush also. Galeng! Don na ako always with my friends!!

Hi Fiona. I had myself waxed at your Filmore branch last Saturday. The staff who attended to me were Shirley and May and they were not using face masks. Are they no longer required to use one? Anyway, ill be coming back sometime.
February 23rd, 2010 at 5:11 pm
Hi Arms, (?:))
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. They are required to wear masks for all procedures except obviously for threading when they have to use their teeth
I just got off the phone with May and she was guilty as charged. Rest assured it won’t happen again.
Thanks,
Fiona
February 24th, 2010 at 11:43 am
hi fiona…i usully go to the Buendia branch…they’re not wearing masks also…
March 6th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
Hi Kt,
Thanks for the feedback
Will definitely talk to our Buendia partner about that.
Fiona
March 11th, 2010 at 8:39 pm
Is there an underarm threading? How much? Thanks! ^_^
March 18th, 2010 at 11:16 pm
can you recommend a professional here at lay bare? just a person who is expert and has been in this salon for long time. my friend sasy natapat siya sa baguhan palang, ayon may natira pang mga hair..
March 19th, 2010 at 9:20 pm
Hi Toni,
We just wax the underarms. The only time we thread is when there are remaining hairs that are too short for the wax to take out
It’s 150 for women and 200 for men
Hi Ejuvinas,
Thank you for sharing your experience. You may contact us directly thru 0917-LAY-BARE so we may refer you to the most senior techs but rest assured all our new hires undergo sufficient training before taking on clients. My apologies for that experience and we’ll do better next time
Regards,
Fiona
