After a 5-day weekend, I found myself nursing a headache on my first day back at work in hot, humid Manila. Turns out, I may have had a little too much fun over my vacay. But I still figured that this was as good a day as any to indulge in some of the best Italian dishes I’ve come across. So I opted against calling in sick, and instead called on a friend to have lunch with me at Amici di Don Bosco, my favorite spot to get a quick mid-day Italian feast fix. The mere mention of this place conjures up images of rich, creamy, flavorful sauces over steaming hot pasta. Not at all like most Italian-themed bistros, Amici is more of a humble nook with bright lights and simple furnishings. But not to worry—the restaurant, which also serves as the Don Bosco canteen, offers enough space for both the students and its growing fan base. Another perk: Amici di Don Bosco serves up Italian cuisine (and then some!) at student-friendly prices (read: easy on the wallet).
