PenPen: Comfort and Be Comforted!
by Sharline Bareng, Staff Writer
It was a gloomy, rainy Monday when a friend and I found PenPen, a cozy eatery near the stretch of Tomas Morato in Quezon City. I didn’t have breakfast that day since I woke up late and had to hurry out of the house without even gulping down some coffee. So, when I met my friend, I was hungry, grumpy from getting soaked in the rain, and craving for some hot food.
Boy, did we come to the right place. True to its tagline, “comfort food araw-araw,†PenPen specializes in affordable, Pinoy home-style cooking that I just can’t get enough of, the sinigang fiend that I am. Owned by Chupsie Medina, PenPen has already been around for a year, serving the QC lunch crowd. It was only recently that Chupsie’s son, Ping Medina of the hit indie film Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, helped his mom run the little restaurant, revamp its look, and conjure new recipes. This, says Ping, is the Medinas’ answer to the search for good food served in a cozy, homey atmosphere.
