Trend Alert: Skulls

We’ve been seeing the skull trend since a year ago, along with the rocker-chic look, the patent craze. And I’m surprised it’s lasted this long. In fact it’s even stronger now as we see skulls in just about everything! I like it because it gives my otherwise feminine outfit a little toughness. Naturally, the look works for men, too!
It’s probably not for everyone, but if you mix it with your regular pieces, it could work even for work! As with other fleeting trends, wear it in moderation. Perhaps one (or max, two) skull items at a time…unless you’re going to a Halloween party.

Button earrings, P15 each, Divisoria Mall. The matronly button earrings from the ‘80s are so back! These, however, are anything but. I like to use these to contrast my outfit instead of match it.

Skinny ties, P400 each, Rebel Gear. Tuck in one of these ties underneath a vest and white shirt combo to add an understated rock vibe to your work wardrobe. For casual days, wear it loose with a T, tank top, tube, or collared shirt.

Black & white double skull necklace, P350, Rebel Gear.

Sneaker ballet flats. These are great with jeans, skirts, shorts, even dresses. With laces, P595, YRYS. With garter strap in black/white, People are People.

Lace-up boots, P1499, YRYS. Love the funky-ness. I HAD to buy them straight away. You can wear them laced up all the way or halfway with the “tongue” folded out. They look great with tucked in jeans or tights, or against bare legs with a mini skirt or shorts.

Suspenders, P250 up, Rebel Gear.

Fingerless gloves, P150/pair, Rebel Gear.

I saw this trend early in babies and kids wear.
When Shiloh (Brangelina’s daughter) had her first publicity photos in People magazine skulls were printed on her jumpsuit.
A month ago, I was looking for leggings for my four year old daughter. My mother purchase gray leggings with skulls and card symbols from Gingersnaps. I was told it also came in pink.

ei cathy b– I thought so, too– but they’re EVERYWHERE right now–even Topshop, Terranova…maybe these stores don’t read Vogue. hahaha. Kidding aside, fashion is fashion– it shouldn’t be taken too seriously. =)

I’m not sure if “Jack” from “Nightmare Before Christmas” counts as a skull design but I’ve been seeing this print on my students’ stuff like parka’s and messenger bags (I teach at an exclusive boy’s school)
