Since the holidays are just around the corner, we at ShopCrazy are already on the lookout for various gift ideas for your family, loved ones, friends, officemates, colleagues, and everyone else on your list.
They say that you usually can’t go wrong with food. But, of course, it’s important to give nothing but the best because not only does it say something about you, but also what you think about the recipient.
Naturally, someone has to undergo the, uh, arduous task of taste-testing these goodies. And Cosmo Bread’s cakes and pastries are just the beginning. We just discovered their yummy products at the recently concluded Baker’s Dozen at the Power Plant Mall.
Elaine Lo’s Cosmo Bread started around a couple of years ago, after she graduated from college. Her passion for food and baking, however, has been in her since she was small, when she would watch her eldest sister make cakes and brownies. Though she didn’t pursue a baking career, she immersed herself in a lot of books and enrolled in baking classes.
And I just had to ask her, “Why Cosmo Bread?” Elaine says that though her brand isn’t affiliated with the popular magazine, she did derive the name from the definition of the word cosmopolitan, which means citizen of the world. On the other hand, bread comes in different shapes and sizes all over the world but the concept remains the same. Hence the name.
I was lucky to get to try some of their best sellers (at the horror of my doctor who put me on a strict sugar-free, low-carb diet over a month ago) and I must say that they’re just absolutely d-i-v-i-n-e. My personal favorite is the Chocolate Toffee Cake (P580), which is a two-toned cake with caramel buttercream and chocolate toffee chips. I seriously had to stop myself from eating more than my self-imposed limit. This is definitely something that I’m having as soon as I can have sweets again, just wait.

Now THIS is what you call heaven!
For fellow chocoholics, another must-try is their Unconditional Chocolate Cookies (P180/dozen), which is every purist’s dream. It’s a seriously dark cookie with chocolate chunks, that’ll just make your knees go weak. Okay, I’m exaggerating, but you get the picture.

If I were Santa, I wouldn’t mind squeezing down the chimney if these were served!
Now for those who love chocolate with a twist, the Peppermint Torte (P280/box) is what you should sink your teeth into. It’s a dark, moist chocolate torte with a refreshing peppermint layer in between. YUM!

These remind me of those famous peppermint patties
And because we know that not everyone shares my extreme passion for chocolates, we’ve also tried a couple of whites, which most definitely did not disappoint! I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of vanilla. But these two made me eat my words…among other things.

Simply Vanilla (P550)
An ethereal combination of creamy custard and vanilla chiffon

Vanilla Pound Cake (P250/loaf)
Intriguingly tender with a creamy melt-in-your-mouth goodness
They have a wide range of products, from no-fail old-time favorites such as the Devil’s Food Cake and Sansrival, to signature treats like the Frozen Oreo Mousse and Fresh Mango Cake. Their all-time best sellers are the Food for the Gods, Peppermint Torte, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Pound Cake, Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake, Fresh Mango Cake, and Custard Cake. Just recently, their Chocolate Toffee Cake was added to their growing list of best sellers when they launched it at the Baker’s Dozen.
For the holidays, they have from their usual menu the Rum Raisin Fruitcake and English Fruitcake, and they’re also adding the Chocolate Toffee Cake, Unconditional Cookies, and Orange Rum Pound Cake.
All orders should to be made at least 2 days in advance. But for bulk orders, especially during this holiday season, it would be best to give Elaine at least a week’s notice, so she can make sure that you’ll get your products at your most convenient time.
Orders can be made through Elaine Lo, Mondays to Saturdays, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm:
cosmobread@gmail.com, 0922-487-4565, 366-4725. Pick up point is at 228 Ortigas Avenue, San Juan.
