The first few times I saw the trailer, I thought, “Uh-oh, this is going to be hard to sell.” But I must admit, it eventually grew on me. The last time I saw it, it actually became a must-see. Go figure. I’m thrilled I gave it a chance, though.
Giselle is living her life quietly in the forest, doing basically what Disney damsels do—sing, talk to cute woodland creatures, dream about her true love and his kiss. Prince Edward hears her dulcet tones and the two meet and fall in love. They decide to get married the next day. They ought to have lived happily ever after but the prince’s evil stepmother isn’t ready to be replaced as queen of the land. Dressed as a hag, she gets rid of Giselle by shoving her down a magical fountain and the poor girl ends up in modern-day, 3D NYC.
You know what happens to damsels in distress, right? They get rescued by a handsome, kind prince on a white steed. This being real life and New York, the prince is a cynical—albeit handsome—divorce lawyer-slash-single father and the white steed is replaced with an adorable daughter. Father and daughter have no idea what they’re getting into when they decide to help Giselle…but don’t worry, all turns out well in the end for all of them, except the for the evil stepmom (and the curtains).
