Sale season is full on! Before you buy everything in sight, think about whether it’s something you would still be wearing in the next few months or not.
Based on runway shows for Spring/Summer 2008, here’s a quick list of what’s to expect in the ever-changing world of fashion.
What’s hot:
1. Grecian. Wear anything drapey, in jersey, as a top or a dress, This look is great for day or night. Pair with strappy gladiator sandals, or high heels for evening.

2.
Booties. Boots that are cut to the ankles– high-heeled or flats, lacedup or buckled, even the open-toed variety, some are mutated to look like strappy sandals that come up to the ankles. Basically, any shoe that buckles or zips up to the ankles.

3.
Gladiator sandals–flats or the heeled variety, the more straps, the better.

Color! Color! Color! For this Spring/summer, colors are worn in the most unexpected combinations. Not just with accessories, but full ensembles and different prints. Some of the Hot colors for ‘08: Yellow, orange, purple, cobalt blue.

DIOR Cannage bag, neimanmarcus.com
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN hot pink d’Orsay wedge, neimanmarcus.com 5.
Hair accessory: headband look–wide or multiple skinny straps. You may style it with or without bangs. use plastic, elastic, fabric/scarf.

6.
Maxi-dress for casual days or evening occasions–I personally love maxi-dresses because they’re flattering for all body types. They tend to hide body flaws, while showing off the right curves. For formal parties, forego the satin gown and instead make a dramatic entrance with a flowy maxi-dress.

MICHAEL KORS Caftan, neimanmarcus.com7.
Wide-legged trousers–we’ve been seeing this trend come and go but I haven’t really seen the trend take off here. Maybe because they’re not as flattering on petite women.

ROBERT RODRIGUEZ top and pants, neimanmarcus.com8.
Waisted skirts. The 50s look was a popular trend in many of the shows. It’s not the the full circle skirt for boogie dancing, but still high-waisted that swing with movement, cinched with a belt.
9. Florals. Led by Balenciaga, floral prints–from tiny to bold ones–are back for Spring!

T-BAGS floral dress, neimanmarcus.com10.
Bangles/Cuffs — not piled-on as the previous year’s, but this time, a single big cuff or bangle will do. Embellished, carved, bejewelled, wired, etc– the wider the better.

Bangles and cuffs from Aldo (Bonifacio High Street), Firma (Greenbelt 3), Felicity (Shangri-La Plaza Mall), and Get Happy (Rustan’s Dept Store) 11.
Metallics continue to be hot for Spring/Summer 2008.12.
See-through — There were lots of see-through fabric on the runways of Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld, Ann Sui, among others– tops, jackets, dresses, skirts, even pants! The trick is in layering.Other spring/summer staples will be in for sure: whites and shorts, for instance.

I love how these flowy trends are forgiving to not-so-perfect figures.
It’s refreshing to see something feminine yet subtle. Especially when paired with such bold color palettes, the simple drapery is all that’s needed.

Hi Cherry
I love the Grecian dresses and wedge shoes…they make me look taller and not so big… well, you see, i have gained a lot after giving birth, apart from the fact that it runs in the family.. and as always, it is not easy to take off the excess weight, but am trying…the Loub’s are hot, don’t you think?…
Live well,Monic

Hi abi! I dont think pairing a Grecian dress/top with leggings will help a petite frame. Try long, skinny jeans instead, with heels.
If you prefer to wear flats but are afraid to show your legs, try something longer, maybe just above the knee, but without jeans or leggings.
Or go all the way– floor length. Think: Eva Longoria in her red carpet looks!

February 17th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
@kobekitten, hey i finally found fab gladiator sandals that are below 2k budget at People are People.. the designs are wonderful but I’m really not sure about the durability and how long the design is going to be available at the store.. although PrP shoes are usually of good quality..
But if there is still a cheaper brand, better! as long as the quality is satisfying..
