When it comes to shopping in the Philippines, Manila seems to have the edge over other cities in terms of variety, and having the latest collections from both local and imported labels. I know of friends in Cebu, Ilo-ilo, Zamboanga, for example, who would fly to Manila periodically just to do their shopping.
There is a store in Cebu, however, that is making its mark in the local fashion/retail scene. Says Diane Uy, owner of What A Girl Wants:
“We have noticed that retail outlets here in Cebu City are not as updated and do not have as much variety as their Manila counterparts. We wanted to change this with What A Girl Wants. It is our philosophy to give the Cebuanas the best that fashion has to offer. Our line includes, apparel, shoes, bags, and accessories sourced here in the Philippines and in neighboring Asian countries.”
What A Girl Wants also carries popular labels such as Havaianas, Cole Vintage, Team Manila; and Cebu brands, Sepa Accessories and Rhipstop Clothing. But their bestsellers are their apparel.
I was in Cebu City a few months back, and true enough, when I asked locals about the store, they said, “Yes, it’s a good place to shop!” Unfortunately, I only had time to swing by and not shop inside the store. Here are some items from their latest Holiday collection:

What A Girl Wants started out as a 20 sq.m shop in Ayala Center Cebu’s newly developed shopping hub, The Maze, last February 2004. Since then, they have opened two stand alone branches- one in Ayala Center Cebu and the other in Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City. Then by popular demand, What A Girl Wants…for Her Man opened in July 2006.

i saw this store in ayala center when i flew to cebu last november. the name’s eye-catching and really made me go inside to browse. the stuff are okay, very trendy.

Not sure where to post this:
Totally unrelated but…do you know where I can find fashion tapes in Manila(essentially double-sided tapes meant to keep clothes in place). I know a shop in The Block carries it but it’s way overpriced at P1000 (considering it cost US$7 on the net).

Hollywood Tape is available at Beauty Bar for P499. Maidenform in Rustan’s also sells doublesided fashion tape (with a dispenser like regular scotch tape) for onlyl P395.

if im not mistaken, i once sat beside diane uy (the owner) on a plane from cebu to manila. this was around late sept, and she looked like as if she was going to make a presenation about her shop. i couldnt resist peeking at her laptop screen! the outfits were really good!
hopefully they open a branch in manila soon.
and im no stalker! that was just a coincidence.

This shop also has a guys line, What a Girl Wants For Her Man. Great clothes and it’s very affordable. It’s one of the reasons why I enjoy it when my girlfriend shops at What A Girl Wants, I can hang out and stay in the men’s department while she goes nuts :p
Definitely recommend this place!

Whenever I’m in Cebu, I always make sure I make a quick stop at their store. I never leave the store empty handed! Their clothes are fantastic and there is always something new. I highly recommend this place as a one of the shops to drop by when you swing by Cebu or CDO!
