Jelly beans = sports drink?

Would you believe that this pack of jelly beans is just as effective as a sport drink like, say, Gatorade in improving exercise performance?
Popular jelly bean maker Jelly Belly has created Sport Beans, the energizing jelly bean. Each 1-ounce (28-gram) pack contains carbs, electrolytes (sodium and potassium, which are vital for fluid balance), and vitamins B and C, which other jelly beans don’t have. And according to a study made by the University of California Davis Sports Medicine Program, each bag of Sport Beans maintains blood sugar levels and improve exercise performance.
Imagine jogging or cycling and lugging an unwieldy bottle of sport drink versus a handy pack of sweet jelly beans!
Sport Beans are available in four flavors: Fruit Punch, Berry Blue, Orange, and Lemon Lime. For more information, visit www.sportbeans.com.

Sport Beans are available at all Candy Corner stalls. SRP is P60 for a 1 oz. pack

as an athlete i kinda get what this is for. there’s a diff b/w quenching thirst versus replacing those electrolyte things. if you’re active and you only wanna drink because you’re thirsty, any drink will do. but sports drinks do more than that because they replace the lost nutrients and stuff when you’re physically active like jogging or something. i think this candy aims to replace the lost nutrients the way sports drinks do, and obviously doesn’t claim to quench thirst or anything like that. correct me if im wrong though

Yeah, that makes sense, Marie, but I think it’s irreponsible of them to say that this is a complete sports drink replacement (even going as far as saying it’s better than lugging around an unwieldy bottle) because without any liquid, you could really get dehydrated. And anyway, it’s not healthy to exercise without any water whatsoever, so you’ll still have to lug around an unwieldy bottle of water along with your pack of jelly beans!

Is this similar to Clif Shot Bloks for athletes? Anyways when I ride or jog short distances I don’t stop to drink til the end of my jog or ride na since I’m not doing a long-distance thing. But I pop a Clif Blok during the short ride or jog for the meantime muna. I drink after na, when like I get back home na after going around our village. So in my case I bring my Clif Bloks with me instead of my thermos kasi I can drink after the jog or ride na. Anyways is this really like a sports drink that improves exercise performance? So I won’t make pabili na Clif Bloks just n case.

bought one, I read the product information attached to it.. it is indicated that the sports beans be consumed with water prior to workout and reload with sports beans as exercise is performed. check out http://www.sportbeans.com

Its a fascinating idea, and really appealing with the bright colors (and marketed as candy, too, so they can’t go wrong!) I’d be really curious to try some of these out.
