See the sky clearly on rainy days

One thing I don’t like about toting an umbrella during rainy days is people tend to bump into each other because typical umbrellas block part of a person’s view—especially people like me, who are petite.

Thank heavens then for the Genki Umbrellas, these cute and colorful transparent umbrellas, which are distributed by Windward Ventures.

But what’s so special about these one-color umbrellas?

Aside from seeing raindrops falling from the sky (without getting wet) being nice, international celebrities have been seen toting a transparent umbrella—the most unforgettable of which are Charlotte clutching one in Sex and the City, and Scarlett Johansson in a white jacket holding a clear one in Lost in Translation.

Now, the Genki Umbrella is here in the Philippines for PhP99.00 and is available in National Bookstore, Metro Gaisano Group of Stores (Metro Market! Market! at The Fort, Metro Lucena, Metro Legazpi, Metro Colon Cebu, Metro Ayala Cebu, Metro Mandaue Cebu), Fooda Hypermarket Cebu, and Ministop convenience stores. Each umbrella measures 21 inches in length.

Here are some of the available colors, which are sure to stand out on a dark, dreary rainy day.

    kawaii.^^

i love, love, love transparent umbrellas.. i see they’re starting to market it in the philippines. these are so popular in japan. when i went to japan last year, they were only sold for 100 yen.. that’s roughly around 40 pesos, but i think 100 is a fair price.^^

  10. prettygal Says:

wow nice! i love the pink and yellow ones.

  11. Moca D Says:

A refreshing break from dark and plaid ones we usually see…

I would not recommend it if you’re trying to shade yourself from the sunshine though.

  12. MeG Says:

i bought a pink one yesterday. too bad the material (plastic) is delicate that there’s a minor scratch already, that may progress to a bigger hole soon. and i haven’t used it yet!!! well, it’s 99pesos only (enough complaining!).

  13. brent Says:

hi all! the plastic material is made from POE/PE plastic which stops any tear from increasing in size, unlike other plastics :) You can do a simple experiment on this if you have an old damaged POE umbrella.

  14. Shar Says:

Wow, this is so nice! Thanks! I’ve been wanting to get one of these ever since I saw Lost in Translation! :D

  15. carla Says:

It’s about time! I’ve been looking for white transparent umbrellas (after seeing celebrities and japanese/korean fashionistas) for years! I better buy one of each color (maybe two of the whites) before they run out come rainy season! :P

  16. mia Says:

  17. gerbera Says:

hi. does anyone know how much is a david & goliath watch? are the d & g stores here sell watches aside from their famous tees?

  18. littlehamster Says:

hi… do u guys know how this craze suddenly start? coz frankly i think its a big RIP OFF. im a tokyo resident and i think these umbrellas are copied from japan, thus the name GENKI (which means “good”, “fine”, “healthy”). and these are the CHEAPEST umbrellas u can find here in japan… theyre sold everywhere at DAISO shops…for the price of 105 yen (P42.65). and its totally NOT CLASSY to carry one! i think whoever is selling this in the phil is doing some BRILLIANT (or should i say deceitful?) marketing. i think consumers nowadays dont think of their purchases..they just buy whatever is marketed as being “cool”. wakeup! theyre selling it double the price! and it aint cool at all! not to mention its poorly made. u wouldnt want it to be blown away in the middle of manila thunderstorms ya know.

  19. Bea G. Says:

i think naman the seller here acknowledges it’s copied from those found in japan, obviously, based on the name palang. i mean they had to call it something. and based on the other comments, they know they’re copied from those from japan which is why most like it anyway since they’ve been seeing in on tv and stuff but can’t afford to fly all the way to japan to get them ya know. ultimately it’s the consumer’s choice.

  20. lee Says:

littlehamster The ones that you are talking about (those Japanese umb) are disposable, that is why they are cheap. Though you can find durable ones at higher prices. Transparent umbrellas have been around na in Phils way back when I was little, though they weren’t patok kasi here they use their umbrellas both as rain and Sun protectors. So how can you shield yourself from the sun if its transparent? It’s good to see those cute clear umbrellas going mainstream. I hope Genki will make cute anime style just like the ones I see in Tokyo. It’s 99 bucks so its not overrated.

  21. brent Says:

littlehamster, I have to agree that in Japan, these are sold in 100yen shops. However, if you go around Tokyo, different transparent umbrella quality have different prices :) In those 100yen shops, they offer a smaller size umbrella (19″ rib length), thinner shaft, and rounded rips (compared to Genki Umbrellas’ fluted ribs), and thinner/cheaper handle. If you know these technicalities, you should understand the difference in value. In addition, they are considered fashionable and cute in Japan even though it’s very common there. If it’s not, why do fashionable-conscious Japanese buy them? :)

  22. liz Says:

is it available at all branches of national Bookstore?

  23. liz Says:

i got one at National Bookstore, Mall of Asia.

  24. Maggie Says:

    Hi
Can you tell me where I can buy these see through umbrellas? Or can you put me in touch with company that makes them? I’m based in the UK and would like to buy in bulk.
    Thanks

  25. patheticbaka Says:
