Butter up for protection

If you’ve stopped slathering sunscreen on your face after the summer months, reconsider your sun protection habit. A scattering of clouds doesn’t mean we’re safe from harsh effects of UVA/UVB rays, which may induce skin aging. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that we use at least SPF 15, even when in the shade.
At the launch of EchoStore last week, I found the alternative for my usual brand of sunscreen in Z.E.N.’s (Zestful, Energetic, Natural) Shea Butter Sunblock Cream SPF 15.
Find out why you’ll also love this product after the jump.
Z.E.N.’s sunscreen is perfect, I thought, since it has SPF 15–enough to tide me over during cloudy or rainy days. The selling factor for me, however, is how the sunscreen is oil-free, which I quickly saw for myself when I spot-tested it on my cheek. Usually, I still have to dust some powder on my face after applying my SPF 30 sunscreen; but I won’t have to do that with Z.E.N.’s Shea Butter, since it leaves a matte finish.
Another thing I love about Shea Butter is its scent. The cream contains oils of olive, sweet almond, and coconut, which give it a very unique fragrance–unlike other sunscreens that leave a distinct smell after application. Its olive-almond-coconut combo smells more like mild perfume, which strangely has a relaxing effect on me as well.
