You’ll never guess what these cute shoes are made of
by Savvy Shopper
Another line of Simple Shoes is Green Toe, which they created in the hopes of “trying to make shoes that did less harm and more good out of materials that were natural or would ultimately be biodegradable.†For its Fall 2008 collection, Green Toe introduces feminine flats, Mary Janes, baby booties, men’s loafers, and messenger bags. Who ever said you had to be a hippie to rock some sustainable shoes?
Toepaz in cub (also available in black and natural), P2,995
Green Toe product uppers are made from natural fibers like hemp and organic cotton. The Pedbed (footbeds) are made with cork and natural latex which are squishy and provide comfort by molding onto your feet. Bottoms are made with natural crepe rubber (a renewable resource) and recycled car tires. Bamboo is woven into a fabric for comfy linings that also serve as a natural anti-microbial, so you can supposedly bid stinky feet goodbye.
GT Jane in black (also available in cub), P3,095
Green Toe designs (so named because people who love the earth are said to have green thumbs, so people who love these shoes must have Green Toes) are supposedly so natural you can bury them right back into the ground when they are worn out!
Apart from these great-looking footwear, Simple also has a line of bags meant for folks who want eco-friendly gear without looking like a hippie. With SRPs ranging from P2,195 to P3,495, the new collection features colorful styles for men and women including cool saddle bags and nifty messenger bags.
To see other bags and footwear designs, including those for men, kids, and babies, visit the Simple website.
Simple shoes are available in Rustan’s (Makati, Shangri-La Mall, and Alabang).

i have a GT Jane, i bought it last week and have been wearing it almost everyday. it’s really comfy and feels really good to be helping the environment:)

for something that is made from recycled stuff, these shoes are darn expensive. and ugly, no offense.
what i dont get is how come products to adverstise as being eco friendly always end up being sooo pricey.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
wow! the designs are so cute! and i love the fact that you’re doing your bit for the environment while you’re wearing it!
September 26th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
hi teza:) for the one i got, it’s only the recycled car tire which is recycled, this is great cause otherwise it will just end up in landfills as trash. but otherwise the organic cotton and jute are sustainable materials which are much better for the environment than synthetic materials. i think the production process for these kind of goods are really more costly:)
September 26th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Sustainable materials are more expensive to use than normal stuff that are not earth friendly. Sustainable doesn’t mean recycled or old mind you.
You just pay a little more for Simple but at least you feel better about yourself because they are eco-friendly.
I’m a young mom and nothing in the world is more precious to me than my kids.
I’m glad that a shoe company like Simple is around. The more we can support this brand, the better the earth will be for our kids.
Besides being eco-friendly, they are comfortable! What else do you want in a shoe.

Right on sis LV!
My partner wears only Simple Shoes in San Fran. He says he can’t go back to cons, because the soles of Simple Shoes are much more comfortable.
I can’t wait to get a pair of sneakers to try, so my partner and I can wear them together. I commute a lot to my call center job in Makati and I really need comfy shoes.
Might visit the Shang store this weekend =)

hi,
i love the kids for infants:)
but i have sworn on terra plana – they were actually the first sustainable brand of shoes to hit manila sometime back in 2007 – they are fab! yes on the pricey side, but as in all things sustainable, value is spread equitably throughout the value chain…i guess this is the driver of higher than sweatshop-produced shoes…as much as i adore terra plana, i love the simple line for little kids…

wow. i love shoes and have been buying pairs most of the time. it’s my first time to hear about shoes made from recycled materials. they are a bit expensive actually. however, i’d be interested to buy a pair or two.
