Sure there are coffee shops and quaint restaurants where we can dine, unwind, read, or catch up with friends. But have you ever thought of enjoying these activities elsewhere, say at a hand and foot spa?
Quezon City folks and those within the vicinity will be glad to discover that there is actually a cozy new place where you can make pampering a family affair or a new way of hanging out with friends.
Nail Files, found near East Avenue which is accessible from basically anywhere in the metro via EDSA or the QC Circle (Elliptical Road to some), is the new hangout place for students, particularly those reviewing for exams. Owner Mitzi Panganiban even claims it is a family destination, since a lot of their customers visit with their daughters or even their sons. It is arguably one of the more relaxing places within UP Village, and it just might be worth visiting even if you live in Manila or the Ortigas area.
My friend and I decided to see for ourselves, and we were not disappointed. The wonderful pampering we experienced follows after the jump.
You will certainly delight to know that Nail Files’ claim, “Pampering this good has never been so affordable,†is actually true. You get all the relaxing treatments you want and need at very reasonable prices. They have several pampering packages that bundles your favorite treatments, making them much cheaper.
My friend and I decided to get a combination of their Package 8 (P1,250), which includes Foot Spa Indulgence, Mango Foot Paraffin Pleasure, Hand Spa Indulgence, Peach Hand Paraffin Pleasure plus free Pampered pedicure and manicure; and Package 10, which they dubbed “The Ultimate Paraffin Bliss Package†(P1,250), inclusive of eucalyptus back paraffin, mango foot paraffin, peach hand paraffin plus two hours body reflexology and free back, hand, and foot scrub. Yes, you read that right: two hours of soothing massage. We’ve never had a massage that lasted this long, since spas often offer just an hour of it; this was a one-of-a-kind treat.
I suggest you try a similar combo when you have more time in your hands, since all this pampering could last the entire day! You would actually love staying there, since the place is cool, dim, and spacious. The interiors look chic, with its purple walls and soft, fuzzy couches and cushions. It also has a massage area, with massage beds that have curtains drawn around them.
Before beginning the treatments, Mitzi asked us to mix our own scrubs. She says this is a fun new way of introducing scrubsâ€â€allowing customers to pick elements they wantâ€â€as their “gimmick†for the month. She says they plan to introduce other fun concepts for the succeeding months. The ingredients we could choose from are oatmeal, milk, brown sugar, and Dead Sea salt. I tried everything in my mix. Then we put fragrance oils on them: I picked lavender for mine, while my friend picked peppermint. Other options are bergamot and eucalyptus. If you are not up for mixing your own scrub, you can choose from their selection of prepared scrubs, too.
The components of the packages we tried are discussed in more detail on the next page.
