Want to eat healthy yet tasty food? Go for shabu-shabu

Step 3. Add the seafood. Crab and shrimp should go first to make the soup richer in flavor. You can put in fish fillet after, but make sure not to leave it boiling for more than a minute. Make sure you do not overcook the shrimp so you can easily remove its shell. The shrimps and squid balls are what I enjoyed most in their seafood platter.

Step 4. Add the meat when the soup reaches boiling point. The secret to a more tenderized and delicious meat is by beating the egg in a small bowl and pouring it over the beef or lamb platter. After soaking the meat in egg mixture, add it to the boiling hot pot. Note that the meat should not be cooked for more than 20 seconds so you can enjoy its juiciness and tenderness. You’ll see that it quickly turns from reddish to light brown after only a few seconds. Let it cool in the sauce and enjoy.

Step 5. Add the egg noodles, the final ingredient in a hot pot. While waiting for noodles to cook, you can start enjoying the meat and other remaining ingredients in the pot. Stir the noodles to untangle them. The egg noodles are what I found to be the most filling among all ingredients of shabu shabu.

After eating all the food I’ve cooked myself, I realized that even without eating too much, I felt quite full after the shabu shabu experience. It must have been the soup, egg noodles, and pacing in between dishes (since each type of food is cooked at different times) that caused this. The good thing about it is how all food is boiled, which makes it even healthier than being cooked in oil.

Special halu-halo

I really felt like I’ve feasted so much when in fact I only ate a few pieces of lean meat, seafood, vegetables, egg noodles, and a bowl of rich-tasting soup. The meal was capped with their special halu-halo, which has almond jelly and fresh fruits (kiwi, grapes, mango, and banana, among others) on top of crushed ice. The meal was healthy through and through.
