Pizza done the New York way
by Sharline Bareng, Staff WriterYou can do pizza in so many ways, but when we’re talking about indulgent pizza, New York style is the way to go. Among American pizzas, the New York style is perhaps closest to the Italian version because of its wide, thin slices, light sauce, and generous toppings.
You can quell your craving for Big Apple style pizza in New York Pizza Depot (NYPD), a New York police-themed pizzeria in Quezon City. No matter how far it was from our office in Mandaluyong, my colleagues and I decided to sample its menu, which goes beyond offering just pizza.
Read on to see what makes NYPD different from other pizzerias in town.
NYPD looked more like a night spot at first sight; it wasn’t crowded during lunch hour. While that may seem strange, we actually relished the idea of having lunch in a place that wasn’t packed because it meant we could talk as we dined. It also meant that we had the undivided attention of the NYPD staff, dressed in police uniforms that went well with the restaurant’s theme.

If you’re the type who prefer to order solo servings, even of pizza, you’ll be pleased that NYPD offers great choices for solo eaters. Their pizza, for instance, can be ordered per slice; no need to worry about how to finish an entire thing. I immediately chose a slice of NYPD Blue pizza (P85 per slice), thin crust topped with mozzarella, dollops of blue cheese, generous pieces of grilled chicken, and dried chili pepper. I also ordered their best-selling Buffalo Wings (P150 for six pieces) to share with my officemates.
NYPD Blue was so good, I had no regrets going this far just to eat New York style pizza. Although I’m not a fan of blue cheese, I found it delectable when combined with grilled chicken and spiced with a bit of chili pepper.
Buffalo Wings
The Buffalo Wings, meanwhile, were lighter than usual buffalo wings but appetizing nonetheless. It’s a great accompaniment to their pizza and pasta dishes.

they have a branch in podium, at the top level near the cinemas. i always (always!) order the nypd blue pizza and the buffalo wings. the day you try the blue pizza is the day you will fall in love with blue cheese. plus the crust is thin, so you can finish 4 slices no problem at all. and the buffalo wings is among the best i’ve ever tasted. dip it also with blue cheese.
