Make way for Gateway PCs
by Cheekie Albay, Staff Writer
Calling all techies! There’s a new PC brand in the market that can give your Compaqs and Macbooks a run for their money. Gateway PCs are not only highly efficient, they look really sharp, too.
Although little-known in these shores, California-based Gateway has actually been around since 1985. Gateway is a pioneer in computing technology that has award-winning products to its name. The company was acquired by Acer Inc. in 2007, and together they comprise the world’s third-largest PC company.
At a recently held press launch, Gateway unveiled its introductory models: the UC7308i and UC7811i laptops for multimedia and gaming enthusiasts, classy MD2601i and MD7802i notebooks, LT1001i netbook, and ZX2300W all-in-one desktop. Find out which of these get the ShopCrazy thumbs-up after the jump.
We love the Gateway LT1001i (P21,400), which, at a mere 1kg, is so easy to bring with you wherever you go. While this nifty netbook is tiny, it actually has a generous 160GB storage drive that allows you to keep all your photos and multimedia files in one space.

The LT1001i can perform basic computing tasks, with a powerful Intel Atom N270 processor and 1GB of DDR2 533MHz system memory to keep things snappy. But its real charm is in its seamless Internet connectivity. With its 802.11b/g wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) card, you can check your email and update your Facebook wherever you find yourself gallivanting this summer.
Meanwhile, it’s also so easy to like Gateway’s ZX2300W (P27,800), a slim white wonder that is reminiscent of Apple’s spotless iMacs. But mind you, it’s no copycat. The ZX2300W is equipped with AMD Athlon processor 2650e, 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM, and a generous 160 GB Serial ATA hard disk drive. Top-rate ATI Radeon graphics and integrated hi-fi audio that blasts from side-mounted speakers complete the package. Internet surfing, video viewing, and gaming are made more enjoyable with these powerful features.
One adorable thing about the ZX2300W is its slender retractable keyboard. It stows neatly under the monitor so it doesn’t take up too much space on your desk. Isn’t that neat?

…Now you don’t!
