Wade in the Wayfarer Wave
by Happy Lopez, Fashion & Beauty
Fashion seems to be in revival mode season after season. One of the trends that constantly re-emerge on the runway is the erratic style of the eighties-punk, neon, acid wash jeans, shoulder pads, leg warmers, and everything oversized. Every ‘80s essential has made a big comeback, albeit as a new, modernized version. One of them is the era’s biggest fashion staple-the Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
While the height of its popularity was in the 1980s, this was in fact a revival of the time the first wayfarers came out in the 1950s. Made all the rage by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s (1961), the Wayfarer instantly gained a cult following among tinseltown’s iconic stars like James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, and pop culture artist Andy Warhol.
