Finding the perfect foundation for your skin type
by Trixie Reyna, Managing Editor
Lucky are those who have perfect skin, who look flawlessly beautiful even without makeup. For the rest of us who are not as fortunate, we need to rely on key cosmetic products to hide certain flaws and enhance our best features. Thus, the first thing you need is the right foundation.
Figuring out the right shade is easy. According to MarieClaire.com, simply match the foundation color with your jawline then check it out in natural light, under which it should be invisible against your skin.
When you’ve got the shade down pat, it’s finding the right formulation that becomes tricky—should you use cream, stick, liquid, or powder foundation? Oprah.com says knowing your skin type and complexion will tell you the perfect foundation to use.
One such brand that offers a comprehensive selection of foundation based on different skin types is Clinique. Check out our quick guide to choosing the right foundation based on your skin type after the jump.
For Very Dry to Dry Skin
Opt for foundation that moisturizes skin just as it provides good coverage, which you can find in liquid, stick, or hydrating powder foundation formulations, according to Oprah.com. Try Clinique’s Supermoisture Makeup (P1,750), which is intensely moisturizing yet has a very light texture and dewy finish. Incidentally, Supermoisture Makeup (main photo) also happens to have such a broad shade lineup, according to Clinique Product Development Worldwide Makeup Vice President Scott Miselnicky.
For Dry Combination Skin
If you have Skin Type 2, you just need to moisturize in certain places and reduce oil where needed. According to Cosmopolitan.com, you should pick a cream-like foundation “with antioxidants to replenish lost moisture and leave you glowy (but not greasy).†Try Clinique’s Superbalanced Makeup (P1,590), an oil-free foundation that provides moderate coverage and a natural finish.

If you’re more comfortable with powder formulation, try Superpowder Double Face Makeup (P1,500), a fuller coverage powder and foundation combination that provides moderate to full coverage with a matte finish.
