Tried and tested pimple control
by Trixie Reyna, Managing Editor
How does your body react to and show signs of stress? Some of us unfortunately break out more than usual as our system’s reaction to stress. As if looking haggard and older isn’t enough, we still have to battle unsightly outbreaks around the cheek, forehead, or chin area.
I get stress-related outbreaks at certain times of the year, and mid-year is certainly one of them. Did you notice that too? After all, you’re probably more stressed than you normally are because not only do you still have so much to accomplish, you now realize you’re running out of time. Where has half the year gone?
It’s at these crucial times that I arm myself with the best defense against and treatment for pimples. After trying so many products, I’ve found that the most effective for me is still The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil range, after all these years. Find out what truly works after the jump.
Found in all products under the Tea Tree Oil range, the antibacterial properties of tea tree oil make it the perfect natural ingredient for fighting blemishes and keeping oily or blemished skin clear and healthy-looking. It prevents outbreaks, controls oil and the occurrence of future blemishes, and combats existing pimples.
Like a lot of you, I began using The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil Cover Stick (P495) when I was just in high school, several years ago. Back then, I was limited to just concealing pimples when they’ve already materialized on my face.
Not long after that, a friend introduced me to The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil (P395), which for me is like a miracle cure for zits: apply just a small amount of the oil directly on your blemishes using a clean cotton bud or cotton ball, allowing it to dry naturally, and the very next day, the inflammation is gone! It contains 15% antibacterial, pure tea tree oil, diluted for direct application on the skin to help combat and soothe blemishes.
Several issues of Cosmopolitan Magazine later, I realized that, as with any affliction, prevention is better than cure—or in this case, concealer. And one of the best and simplest ways of preventing blemishes is through adapting a proper skin care regimen that consists of three steps (cleansing, toning, and moisturizing) using the appropriate products for your skin.
In times when I’m more stressed (and blemished) than usual, I use The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil products for my daily skin care regimen. I wash my face twice a day with Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash (P550), a cleansing gel that lathers to gently lift impurities while helping control shine and blemishes. It leaves a fresh, soft feeling, having removed oil and grime without drying your skin.

After cleansing, I use Tea Tree Oil Facial Toner (P595), which refreshes my skin and removes traces of cleanser, dirt, and makeup. Applied using a cotton pad across my cleansed face and neck, it helps control shine and blemishes without drying skin. It doesn’t have that stinging sensation we often associate with other toners.
But I don’t stop with just toning. While a lot of you may think that just because you have oily skin, you don’t need to moisturize, fact is, even oily or blemished skin needs a suitable moisturizer to help hydrate it and seal in moisture. I use Tea Tree Oil Mattifying Moisture Gel (P650) during the day for shine control and anti-blemish protection. This light moisturizing, non-oily gel disappears into skin to give it moisture where it needs it while controlling shine. Applied on your face and neck using your fingertips, it helps soothe blemishes and leaves skin feeling fresh and conditioned. It minimizes outbreaks with continued use over time.
Don’t let your zits be an added cause of stress. You’re too busy and fabulous for that. Now you know better.
The Tea Tree Oil range is available in all The Body Shop branches nationwide.

Sigh… Zits, pimples. My dilemma too!
Maybe I should try Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil Range…
Yung moisturizer nila, does it have SPF? Or pwede ko parin kaya patungan yun ng Ponds Pearl Cream? Yun kasi ginagamit ko as sunscreen for my face…

Dianne: umm if you have pimple issues, try to discontinue ponds for a while. I used to use ponds and it gave me breakouts. :p
I love body shop

pinkcrayolas: Thanks for the tip! When you use the tea trea moisturizer from TBS, do you still use a separate sunblock/sunscreen?
My face is oily, so I don’t really like piling on too much creams and stuff…

Hi Dianne!
I still use sunscreen over the moisturizer, since it doesn’t have UVA/UVB protection

I have issues with pimples. I have PCOS and the tea tree products of Body Shop helped me with my acne problem. I use the Facial Wash and Toner and if i have zits i apply the tea tree oil. I recently checked Body Shop (Sm North and Trinoma) they told me that these products will be phased out na daw and will be replaced with new products is that true? I am running out of facial wash and toner na

Trixie: Thanks for the tip!
I think I need to start my search for a good, non-sticky, light sunscreen… Hehe.
Joy: Oh no! Why will they phase it out if it’s an effective product? Di ko pa nga natry, mawawala na?

do TBS gives a sample test or trial of Tree Tea Oil products?

Hi Trixie!
Whew! Thanks for letting us know. Hehehe. Any idea when they’ll release the improved formulation? Siguro I’ll wait for that nalang.

I already bought a bottle of toner over the weekend. It’s the new formulation na.
I tried it for several days and it seemed a bit harsh on my skin… Mahapdi pag nilalagay ko and I got a breakout. As in ang dami kong pimples ngayon.
Ganun ba talaga pag kakastart palang gumamit?
Or baka hindi lang ako hiyang…
July 9th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
I know this reply is wayyy overdue but i’m still going to reply haha anways
@dianne: discontinue. It means you’re not hiyang. For the breakout wait a day or 2 for those red spots to settle they may be an allergic reaction to the product.
Then drink allerta hehe… it may help if it’s really allergy
As for the sunscreen i use loreal sunblock but i use a very thin layer of it. But since your face is oily why not buy a powder foundation with uv protection? Powder is better if you are acne prone.
For pimples benzoyl peroxide is good however in moderation just on the spot where there are pimples.
July 10th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
@pinkcrayolas: Hindi pa naman overdue yung reply mo. My post was just made yesterday din naman. Hehehe.
I discontinued it na. Hubby said baka nag-aadjust lang daw skin ko, but then since ang dami ngang pimples na naglabasan, I opted to just stop using it na. Mejo nagstop naman na ang pag-appear ng pimples. They’re drying up na (slowly), but I’m left with a lot of pimples marks. Sniff, sniff…
Re: sublock, Hmmm… you may be right sis. My powder foundation has sunblock naman na. I guess takot lang talaga ako sa UV rays. Hahaha!
Thanks for replying sis pinkcrayolas!

Hi, I started using these BS products last week and I am satisfied with the results… Now, I;m planning to buy the mattifying moisture gel… and the cover stick… Thanks Body Shop..
July 14th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
@diane – hmm… about the toner effect… I do experience it too… pero ganon ata talaga sya kc my glycerin and lemon extract yung toner.. so medyo may stingy feeling talaga.. pero ok naman… i do have new pimple pero nawawala naman after a day by using the product…
July 15th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
@mhelai: Hmmm… Thanks for the feedback. Nakatabi lang muna yung bottle ko. Hehe. Siguro I’ll try it again pag umimpis na yung pimples ko. I’m using Cyleina soaps right now and nawawala naman. Atleast, pag ginamit ko ulit yung toner ng wala na akong pimples, I’d know for sure kung sya nga yung culprit or not. Hehehe.
Sigh, ang hirap maging girl…

Has anyone noticed the colour of the body shop’s ‘tea tree oil cover stick’ in the new range is horrible?
It used to be really fair but now is ORANGE
I wonder where i’ll be able to find the discontinued version online…
