Put your green foot forward with Ylla Shoes
by Steph Castillo
The brainchild of a team of students from the Ateneo de Manila University, Ylla Shoes is a brand flourishing on its claim to fame as “socially responsible footwear.†Chic, durable, and absolutely eco-friendly, the shoes are a testament to increasing levels of environmental awareness in the local fashion industry.
Ylla Shoes support Philippine indigenous textiles and raw materials; each pair is constructed from assorted dyed jute mess or jute canvas, the sustainable natural fiber from which burlap is made. For comfort, the shoes are lined with cushioned pigskin leather that maximizes movement and breathability. Non-skid rubber soles keep you on your feet and give each step an extra bounce. Overall, the look exudes a sophisticated simplicity that’s perfect for ladies of all ages.

Currently, the brand has three main designs. The Laura (shown in top photo) is a classic ballet flat with a studded bow, the Frida (above) a slingback flat with a patent leather toe, and the Anita (below) a flat Mary Jane with an ultra-slim strap. All designs come in an assortment of fresh, spring-themed hues—in addition to the ubiquitous black—so you get a lot of wear from them, whatever the occasion.

Go green with your footwear and try Ylla Shoes! At only P950 a pop, this eco-chic purchase is one you won’t regret.

These are great designs. How do they make sure they live up to the eco-friendly vision?
Are their shoe bags/boxes also reusable?

Ylla uses eco-friendly canvas shoe bags with a signature Ylla bag-print design that can be reused to carry your shoes! All customers get one per purchase of any of the shoes.

Hi! I got my ylla shoes 2 weeks ago.. The materials used were nice and maganda iyong pagkakagawa.. Once ko lang siya nasuot kasi nagka-blisters ako.. Medyo masikip siya sa akin.. Maybe because big talaga feet ko saka medyo wide..

Hi Nhe! We’re glad you liked the shoes, we suggest breaking it in a few more times for the cushion insole, and jute mess (abaca) leather lined upper to properly mold itself to your feet. Since our materials become softer over time, it would be best to try wearing it more for it to really take hold of your shape.
We hope you get to shop more Ylla once we come out with more designs! Thanks!

Maintenance is simple! Take a soft bristled brush and a bit of soapy water to clean out any stains by lightly brushing it off. Then airdry.
Walk barefoot on the Earth, walk Ylla.
