The renowned footwear and fashion brand is launching an incredible contest in conjunction with its new Happy Soles campaign—the winner, along with four lucky friends, will get to visit the gorgeous Brazilian shores for a 12-day, all-expenses-paid vacation complete with enviable goodies from Sony, David and Goliath, and Aloha Board Sports. The Havaianas Happy Soles campaign is a jump-off from recent discoveries about the human “joy level,” or a person’s ability to feel happiness. New research by Richard Davidson, Ph.D., of the University of Wisconsin, has proven that people are able to directly control and even elevate their feelings of happiness despite unpleasant external factors. This can be seen in our own country, where citizens maintain a positive outlook on life amidst poverty and hardship, as confirmed by a New Economics Foundation survey.  The survey results find Filipinos the 14th happiest group in the world, and the only Asians to be counted in the top 10 rankings. A related study by the Social Weather Stations revealed that 79% of Filipinos say that they are happy with their family, friends, love life, health, and religion. And it isn’t just the rich folks—the Class D income bracket was also declared the happiest income bracket, even if its members lack the material wealth which is often (and mistakenly) considered to be the true source of happiness.

To highlight the fact that you can be happy no matter who you are and how much (or how little) you have in your pocket, Havaianas is hosting a competition called “Happy Soles Will Travel to Brazil.” All you have to do is record a very fun, very creative, and of course, very happy video clip which answers the question: If anything was possible, what would you do to make the world happy for a day? If your video is chosen as the happiest of them all, you and your three friends not only win an awesome site-seeing, beach-hopping, crazy-shopping trip to Brazil, but you also get a HandyCam camcorder, Vaio laptop, and Walkman mp3 player from Sony, as well as a brand new wardrobe from David and Goliath and Aloha Board Sports! Your video can be submitted in the following ways: 1) via the Havaianas roving video booth which will appear at key malls nationwide, 2) via email to happysoles@havaianasphilippines.com, or 3) via upload on the Happy Soles campaign website, www.havaianasphilippines.com/happysoles. Submission begins on February 18. The top ten best video entries will be selected by a panel of judges including travel blogger Anton Diaz, Preview editor-in-chief Pauline Suaco-Juan, Capoeira guru Professor Fantasma, and the Managing Director of Havaianas Philippines. Online voting by the public will then determine which video wins the grand prize.
